Muhsin Muhammad: Mike Shula doesn't know how to use a fullback

It was in reference to the possibility of bringing up Alex Armah.

Moose believes a strong - and properly used - fullback is essential to an effective power run game. He questions whether Shula can implement it.

Yeah, but if they don't bring him up, it's because he's not ready. It has nothing to do with whether Shula knows how to use him or not. Shula has never even had a true FB since he's been here, so there is no way to even make such a judgement, in the first place.

I guess we should take lessons from Buffalo. They really used Tolbert effectively to spring Shady.  Now if he talked about wide receiver I might take notice.  Fullbacks, not so much

Tolbert plays HB for them...

Well what do you suppose they will be thinking if Armah or anybody else lines up at FB? I'm pretty sure they didn't run it every time Dickson lined up at FB anyway.

I agree to an extent but I feel it is a much greater tell when you pull a player out of position for specific plays.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
