Samuel is a RB learning how to play WR.

This year he was by far our best route-running WR. Got hurt early but really impacted the flow of this offense against Miami and Atlanta when fully utilized.

As for before, he was never a 'runningback learning WR.' That is false.

Understand Curtis Samuel is a WR who can play RB - not the other way around. Per Pro Football Focus, Samuel had 220 snaps from the backfield, much less than his 425 snaps from the slot. He's more experienced as a wide-receiver than as runningback.

He has to hold on to the ball first

Yep.

He can hold on to the ball through contact when he catches it. That was displayed on his incredible catch against a huge hit during the Miami game.

The issue so far is his hands. Not a natural hands catcher, and that's consistent with his college tape. Otherwise, he's easily our best route-runner and gains separation with speed. Very good weapon who needs to learn to catch with his hands, but isn't as unreliable as Shepard in that regard so far.

Hard to draw any real conclusions so far. We just didn't see him enough. I am excited about who he may become, but he has to stay on the field first. Physically, he doesn't seem much different than #14 for the Vikes  - Samuel is an inch shorter, but much faster (without pads of course). The rest of their combine stats were almost identical. Check it out:

Can't express enough how having someone like Norv is to young WRs. He will improve just by being around a coach like that.

Dont know,  players drafted by gettleman are either hurt or just dont get any playing time.

We took corners 3 corners in one draft  out of desperation and saints draft lattimore and he blows our guys out the water.

And the draft picks used wouldn’t come close to the value of the #11 overall pick. There is a reason he blows our guys out of the water. He should.

Hill is an amazing player but I am not ready to say Samuel is worse or better.  Hopefully he trains well in the off season and gets himself in shape for next year. If he is ready for OTAs, minicamps and preseason I think he'll be a surprise to many.

Samuel made some plays before getting hurt.  Just enough to tease us.   Can't wait to see what Turner does with Samuel and CMC on the field at the same time.

    • Apparently the extension he signed before the season was also a little weird, as it had a very low signing bonus. So the Jets have a very small dead cap hit despite trading a big contract that was signed just 2 months ago. I guess it was only a $13 million signing bonus, and trading him mid-season means it's something around only a $10 million dead cap hit left to take. This is a huge win for the Jets for a player I've long felt was overrated because of a great nickname and an amazing rookie season that he's then failed to fully live up to since them.  Combine that with everyone knowing the Colts seem more mirage then legit long term contender, that 2027 1st in particular could end up being a really good asset for the Jets.
    • Steichen has the offense operating at a super high efficiency with JT/Pittman/Warren/Downs.  The OL is strong. The D - the front 7 has been sneaky good.  They don't instill much fear but do enough.  Buckner is stil playing at a high level.  It's a good system on both sides of the ball.  Blue chip players now at every position group.   Overall, the NFL is wide open right now. Seahawks, Colts, Patriots, Rams, & Bills are at the top of the mid-season hill - which is just wild Lions, Bucs, Broncos, Chargers* are in contention/okay spots (LAC is losing guys left and right though) Chiefs, Philly still linger, you can never discount. Steelers, 49ers are around as always.
