Great moments in bad timing

I wish I could be as optimistic as you.  I feel like my heart has been ripped from my chest by all of this.   I just can't sit by a let my favorite team be run into the ground, again, by an old fart and an idiot puppet GM.  And don't get me started in Ron an Shula.  I feel like these bastards just killed my dog.  I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.  I've bit my tongue for many years but not anymore.

Try this:

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

I've tried darling, that only works until the next flare up of stupidity.  At this rate I would ware out my knees getting up and down to pray.

Waitaminute. Hurney is supposed to be searching for his own replacement?  Is this a known fact or an assumption?  That’s almost as bad as him staying himself!  Shouldn’t JR (or a hired party like Ernie Acorsi did last time) be the one researching and choosing the next GM?  I’m not giving up hope yet that this thing with hurney is just temporary. I can’t.

I see a lot of people argue if Hurndog og G-man was the better drafter. Personaly I think the latter was the better drafter, but it is not the drafting skills that worries me the most - It is the CAP management skills that Hurney clearly doesn't posses. Seems like alot of people already forgot the mess he made before he left, and it baffles me how people can still defend him, after what he did.

Well, considering he handled the cap for Washington and that was his speciality. Most think he had running orders from JR and fell on the sword for him as well since they are friends.

Not that it's a good thing either way, but I'm not sure Hurney was actually responsible for the cap mess tbh. I completely blame JR for wanting to save face after the CBA fiasco.

Officially, Hurney is "interim" but when asked, he did indicate that he would be a candidate also.

So basically, we're trusting that a guy who's up for the position himself will pursue alternate candidates and interview them to see if they're more qualified than he is... and naturally he'll do this with full objectivity.

And yes, that is absolutely as dumbass as it sounds.

What I’m asking is why it is assumed that it will be hurney interviewing candidates?  GMs don’t pick GMs. Owners do, sometimes with the help of a third party. Was it officially stated somewhere that hurney would be picking the next GM?  I missed that.

It was stated when he was brought in that part of his assignment was to search for the new GM.

Basically, instead of Ernie Accorsi, we've got Marty Hurney.

The Panthers have been guilty of poor timing a lot this year, and not just in that we keep having to call timeouts because the offense doesn't have a play ready.

Dave Gettleman was fired at the start of training camp.

Kelvin Benjamin was traded at a time when the team had a winning record and he was helping that effort.

And then we got the news yesterday that Marty Hurney is "interim" all the way through June of next year.

This potentially could be the worst news yet.

Assuming Hurney really is "interim" (not that anybody buys that, but hey), the ideal time to interview GM candidates for most teams is right after the season ends. That's when other teams who have an opening will be doing their work.

And perhaps Hurney will do his due diligence at that point too, but it's worth noting that there's nothing stopping Hurney from working on that front now. Reports have confirmed that he's doing nothing of the sort.

If Hurney uses that stretch of time to concentrate solely on the draft and free agency instead, then good candidates we might have had an opportunity to get may already have other jobs by the time we get around to GM finding in June.

That'd leave us picking over what's left.

I've been hoping to see at least some initial action on the GM search front, but nothing's happened. A lot of people believe nothing is going to happen, but even if it does we may be seeing yet another example of terrible timing on the part of the Panthers.

Sadly, par for the course...

As I said in another thread, JR is not hiring a qualified third party to find a most qualified candidate like Gettle. As of now Hurney is doing the search...but regardless JR hadblatantly shown he cares very little for qualifications or the ‘best candidate’. What he wants is someone he meshes with, can meddle with and someone who does not give resistance or question his will.

Thus no need to worry about all the best candidates being gone already JR’s guy will be much like Hurney was...not even on the radar.

  It's insulting to this fan base that they try to sell us this shell game. Claiming it's a "temporary position" is total bullsh^t. For anyone that has a lapse of memory. Hurney totally destroyed the cap and left this team unable to sign anyone for years. He made draft day trades that where ridiculous. How about the wonderful bloated contracts to washed up players.

What kind of organization brings back a guy with that track record?

And as bad as all this is, playing Newton in December when all was lost and waiting on March for that surgery did the team no favors
