Well, it could be worse. The Colts owe Luck 30 Million Dollars guaranteed still.

When a high-profile player signs a big-money contract, the only money that truly matters is the money that’s fully guaranteed at the time the contract is signed. Agents, however, routinely blur the line between fully-guaranteed payments and sums guaranteed for injury only, because that results in a bigger number being recited by the information robots who will pass along whatever is provided to them without question, scrutiny, or critical analysis.

Rarely does the injury guarantee ever really matter, especially as it relates to franchise quarterbacks. Because franchise quarterbacks rarely have injuries that call their careers in to question.

For Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, the injury guarantees in his 2016 contract extension matter, since there’s currently no guarantee he’ll ever play again.

So far, Luck has received $57 million from the Colts under his second contract. Luck has another $30 million in payments guaranteed for injury — $18 million due in 2018 and another $12 million that becomes payable in March of 2019.

The Colts can avoid that obligation only by trading Luck. And while the shoulder injury would make that proposition less palatable for a prospective employer, a new team could get him for what amounts to a four-year, $82 million contract with $30 million guaranteed and no signing bonus.

Apart from the compensation the Colts would want for Luck, the financial side seems very reasonable in light of the current quarterback market. Of course, the Colts also would have to want to move on from Luck. Or, perhaps more accurately, Luck would have to want to move on from the Colts.

Most importantly, the team that acquires Luck would have to believe he’s healthy.

Far from it. All this talk about Luck being done seems to be pure wild speculation. For all we know he may have been green lighted had the Colts been showing some promise and been able to salvage an okay record out of the first half of the season. This could be more of a risk vs. reward scenario where they're throwing the towel in this year and just saying it isn't worth it.

colts give peyton manning, one of the top 5 QBs in nfl history a $90mil contract in june 2011, put him on IR in september, colts not so subtly tank season earning the first overall pick, cut manning in march then draft luck in april.

5 years later they give luck a $180mil contract only to lose him the year after that.

i'm sure there's a lesson to be learned in there somewhere. probably that jim irsay is a drunk.

      Seems to me that the Bucs have less fight in them now than they had in week 16. The real test is going to be if the Panthers can sustain focus and discipline throughout. With the Bucs being at home, maybe that gives them a little boost of confidence and energy.  Wouldn’t it be something if for ONCE the Panthers came out and dominated from the opening snap and just took this shook Bucs team to task?  If the Panthers see-saw form follows, we are in line for the W. Hard to say we have momentum but we do have a pretty clear pattern of following a loss with a win.  I’m going to say 24-16 Panthers!!

      When Parcell’s said Bryce better “walk on water”…..the implied concern wasn’t that the tiny QB could survive being hit.  It was acknowledging he would have to be extremely special to overcome the handicaps he would face at this level.  Which he isn’t and can’t.  which isn’t just being hit.  It’s being able to play in an NFL pocket and make NFL throws from it….and that ultimately is Bryce’s problem.  He doesn’t play well from a NFL pocket and can’t make all the throws as needed.  He can’t see as others can.  Which impacts the throws he does and doesn’t take.  It also impacts him bailing and killing plays and turning them into scrambles/dead plays

      9:30 kick off here in Scotland, which is better than the 01:20 early hours of Monday that I feared. Will definitely be watching, but probably wouldn't if it had been 0120 as I need to be up for work at 05:45. Falcons Saints is 6pm on the Sunday so will watch that too if it becomes relevant
