I know. That's why I deleted what I wrote. Would have gone right over his head. Of course he might have tried to explain why it's ok when he does it, but not anyone else and that would have been entertaining.

Talent has compensated for Wilks bad scheme against most of the teams we have played, but Payton and Brees see right through it.

I hope your comment does not include the secondary.

The secondary's lack of talent has me think the Browns wouldn't even play most of these bums.

I agree Wilks blitzes/doesn't blitz at the wrong times occasionally, but he pretty much has to sit back and pick his poison. Pretty much the only way the defense succeeds is if the front 7 stops the run and the D-line consistently gets pressure. Otherwise, good QBs will pick apart the secondary composed of guys that would probably get roasted by pee wee WRs

Our LB's hugging the line is leaving gaping holes for the receivers to get open, which is leading to so many big passing plays against us (better safety play would help, but it wouldn't fix those open zones on short to intermediate passing plays).  IMO, it's limiting Luke's greatest asset...his ability to read and diagnose a play before it starts. Playing so close to the line reduces his vision.  And I agree that teams have figured out our tendencies on defense this year.

You can’t be serious. The defense is the only thing keeping us in games. The offense is constantly putting their backs against the wall.

Defense has at least kept us within striking distance in almost all games this year and it usually is great at limiting other teams to field goals more often than not .

And that’s the problem, we rely too much on our defense. We know what we’re getting with the offense.

The defense hasn’t been playing well lately. We let Winston and Ryan look like Dan Marino on 80% of the field. Way too many trips into the redzone.

This can not happen vs New Orleans because they will capitalize unlike the previous teams. The defense needs to be close to perfect to beat them and I’m worried that it won’t happen.

Idk you guys... I think some of you are overestimating the differnces between Mcdermott and Wilks' schemes. McDermott blitzed the LBs very often, too. I understand that Wilks blitzes more but I remember MANY times where I had the exact same complaints about blitzing Luke too often, or him and TD coming down hard in the wrong hole and giving up a big play.

I think one of the unfortunate similarities is that we are lacking in the saftey department. I know not many have the luxury of elite saftey play but if we have better saftey play, any holes or gaps instantly get a whole-lot smaller and we don't get burned as much.

Luke has done a great job this year. He's asked to be a pass-rusher and a coverage linebacker at the same time, and he's occasionally out of position more often (IMO) because he's got to make up for our deficiencies in the secondary. All that said, this postseason will go as far as our defense will take it.
