Are the Panthers Underachievers

Have the Panthers underachieved in the Cam Newton / Ron Rivera era?

Excerpts...

Quote

At some point before the start of the 2018 season, a new owner or ownership group will likely purchase the Carolina Panthers from disgraced owner Jerry Richardson. And while, like everything else in sports now, it will be a calculated and cold business decision based on future profits, there will be someone forking over millions (possibly billions) of dollars who will ask a simple question.

What type of team am I buying, anyway?

Quote

They’ve had stretches where they were unbeatable, and stretches where they are so confounding offensively that it’s hard to believe they’ve had the same coordinator since 2013.

A new owner might wonder: Have the Panthers underachieved during the Rivera/Newton era or is this just another good football team being muted amid the Patriot dynasty?

Quote

If I were a prospective owner of the Carolina Panthers, that would be the side of the argument keeping me up at night. Whether it be scheme, personnel or a combination of the two, something has failed the Panthers during Newton’s tenure. He’ll enter next season at 29 years old—dicey territory for a player that is so prolific as a power runner as well as a passer. Did we all just expect too much out of Newton, or were some of his best years squandered trying to figure the whole thing out?

"Something has failed the Panthers during Newtons' tenure"

No it's not something we all know what that "something" is so wtf you talking about. It's not a fugin secret and the damn article says it without saying it...dunno why they didn't just fugin  say it. Its Shula and then Rivera for keeping Shula.

How can we be underachievers when we were underdogs in almost every situation in all our playoffs. How can we be underachievers when no one picked us to win and now after the game people actually feel sorry for Cam and are talking about how he needs help on every single show?

GTFO it's always been Cam carrying a poo stain franchise and now a poo stain franchise with an egg on it's face because of the owner.

Players have overachieved, coaches have underachieved. You can question his taste in clothes, be infuriated when he sails a pass high, even cringe when he takes a hit, but you can't ever question Cam's passion for the game. Ron needs to take off his blinders and get him some help, or we will waste the best QB this franchise will likely ever see.

My buddy who went to South Carolina texted me last night “the Panthers are the Gamecocks”

a team that can beat anyone one week and lose to the school of the blind next...

We've achieved about as much as you'd expect a good team to achieve. Normally making the playoffs and occasionally making a deep playoff run.

The Steelers are maybe the best comparison over this decade. We've been in about as many playoffs (6 for the Steelers, 4 for us) and been to as many Super Bowls (one loss). We're unfortunately, like them, almost always overshadowed by a marginally better team.

It's hard to separate the man from the business. JR meddling caused some terrible decisions to be made. I think a two year contract is correct for Rivera and Shula. With JR gone and a GM allowed to be a GM there should be no excuses.

I mean, we should have won the Super Bowl in 2015, there's no denying that. Against a broken down QB who played like it, that was massive blown opportunity that we're unlikely to ever get again. Outside of that though, no, not really. Our 2013-2017 is among the best run of success in the entire league.

Peyton Mannings career in Indy is under achieving. All time great regular season QB only winning 1 ring.

GB Packers with Aaron Rodgers another all time great only 1 ring is under acheiving.

Andy Reids Eagles teams and now KC teams are the definition of under achieving.

Cam carrying this scrub squad can never even be considered that.

4 playoffs and a super bowl appearance in 5 years isn't bad. If we can grab a SB before Cam's run is over, I will be thoroughly happy. People forget how bad things were before Cam arrived. I just hope whoever buys the franchise is not afraid to spend some money on free agents.

    • Think the "official time" put out was 4.48, but there were a lot of scouts there who of course all had difference times as it's all handed timed by them.  Think I saw it as low as 4.43 and as high as 4.62 or something, but in the end it's all basically the same speed because 40 yard dash is so pointless. Anyone who complains about his speed is just someone who wants a Chase/Jefferson/Nabers style #1 as opposed to an Evans style #1 who isn't going to beat you because of his speed but his other abilities. In the end, he's fast enough for a player his size and surprisingly quicker and more agile than people give him credit for too. The real problem is that Panthers fans can't get our past big WR failures out of their head, they hear "big WR" and automatically see a plodding KB or Jarrett in their minds and assume that's also T-Mac.
    • If you are buying Silver Club, 300 level, try and the buy ones that have the Lot 1 parking pass.  it is steps to the stadium Also, buy on the shade side my PSls used to be section 342, under the overhang.  I didnt care about sun or rain plenty of sites have interactive  maps that can show you   Just know, if they are opposite side of 342, the sun will beat on your head…endzones too.   if, you know for sure that you are going, and you need a hotel room, do it now  you can always cancel … remember, even if the panthers suck,  the national press follows them as do their fans.  Hotel rooms go fast for that game
    • didn't he run like a 4.52?
