Best article ever Ed Hardin on Panthers offense

I agree with every word in this article.

On the last play, with everything on the line. Our 5 offensive lineman could not block their 3 pass rushers. We started game burning a time out because " oh sh!t, we need to call a play?" And we end it by laying down and letting Cam Newton get trucked one last time.

Mike Shula, don't let the door knob hit ya where the good lord split ya! BITCH

That is brutal

but not untrue.

"In the end, only Newton had the skill and the passion to win a game against all odds. And then it all came crashing down, as we knew it would, because once again the franchise had let down its quarterback. Once again, the franchise left its own mistakes on Newton’s sore shoulder."

Newton needed a running game, but that evaporated after Week 10, which was when Jonathan Stewart’s annual expiration date arrived and reality finally settled in to the brain trust that rookie sensation Christian McCaffrey is not a running back as much as he’s a flanker.

And yet, there they were on Sunday, still sending No. 22 into the line between the tackles in a series of wasted and meaningless plays that only took time off the clock and took the ball out of the hands of the only player on the team capable of moving the offense.

He needed protection. Instead, he had five traffic cones, two of them named Kalil, one of whom an opposing New Orleans player referred to as “Speedbump McGee” after the game.

You should retire if you're an offensive lineman and the defense calls you a speed bump.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
