Quarterbacks active in 2017 with a higher career passer rating than Cam

Give Cam some top notch receivers and that Career Passer Rating goes up.  I would like to see drop rates of all of these QBs.  I would be willing to bet Cam is near the top of WR drop rate.

Why would a ‘Top 5’ QB need ‘top notch’ receivers to succeed?

Last year the Panthers had the 5th fewest drops in the league with 16. The only time they were in the top 10 in total drops oddly enough was 2015. Take that for whatever it's worth, no idea what parameters were used.

another huddle fallacy/misconception that only Pathers receivers have drops and that affects only their QBs completion percentage. you can definitely make a point for overall quality of receivers but thats fairly obvious.

I'd like to know what Cam's passer rating is when he's finally allowed to play uptempo/nohuddle instead of 1970s football. Of course we only run it when we're down 10- 14 points in the 4th quarter. Go watch Favre's games in Minnesota when Childress was trying to make him a game manager and hand the ball to AP and see how he looked until they'd take the leash off at the end when they were down and pray he could pull it out...very similar to Cam. He plays best when he's allowed to play fast and aggressive. I don't get why that's hard for the coaches to get. Cam balled out vs New Orleans our receivers let us and him down...I don't get how anyone that looks at Cam as the major problem with our team. He's not perfect...but he's asked to carry the whole offense more than any QB in the league. Norv even said his take was the best way to help Cam improve was to get everyone else playing higher up to his level.

Of that list.... I only see 7 or 8 legitimate Hall of Fame Quarterbacks. And of those Hall of Fame QB's, Cam is not the worst.

Numbers don't lie, but people do lie about numbers.

That’s my line,..

Yeah, QBR and evaluating Cam just doesn't really tell the whole tale of the tape. And you can't really compare him against Vick and Cunningham as a mobile QB because both, in effect, played in completely different leagues with different types of athletes (yeah, Vick's heyday was 2001 to 2006... things have changed a lot since then).

In the end, all that really matters is wins vs. losses. Cam rates pretty highly there for his career. We're darned lucky to have him and hopefully the new OC can bring him up to a new level. Basically, he has every tool you could want from a QB except reliable consistency in the passing game. If they can coach out those two to three games a year where he's just throwing wild, he'll be remembered as one of the greats of this era.

If not, then down the road he'll be lumped in with the "mobile" QBs, which is a cool subset, but not a subset that is usually thought of as great.

espn's qbr owns because it ranks david garrard's 2007 season as the 6th greatest season of all time and cam newton's mvp season 133rd of all time.

my favorite thing about qbr is that espn quietly reworked the formula after getting made fun of bc according to qbr charlie batch had the single greatest game of all time (12/17, 186 yards, 3 tds and 2 interceptions).

Garrad had a good year per stats. 65% completion. 18 tds 3 int 2,500 yards. Over 100 QR rating that year.

I like QBR overall. Usually the top guys had good years / stats and the bottom had trash years / stats.

Wintz, Keenum, Brady at the top this year.

    • Just going off the draft sims and he's always sitting around 20 lol. First year in a while where we haven't been thinking about the draft already in late October so haven't really looked into the top 15-20 picks yet. Also the qb class is super weak so he probably will sneak up into 10-15
    • I fully expect them to pick up his 5th year , and they're waiting for him to put a full excellent consistent season of QB play in year 4 or 5. If that don't happen,  they'll eventually cut ties.  Here's to hoping he just goes on a team in 2026. The worst thing he could do is continue to see-saw us to around .500 records because it might be impossible to replace him at that point unless youre willing to do the veteran qb carousel poo we did from 2019 to 2023.
    • What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
