Has been coaching at the college level since 1981.  Has never coached in the pros.

Completely outside the box near as I can tell.  No connection I can find to Rivera, Washington or even Sam Mills.

The only Panther I've so far been able to find any connection to?  Devin Funchess.  He was the head coach for the Wolverines while Funchess was playing there.

As a former head coach at Michigan though, he is a known name.

He would have been on the staff with Scott Turner when Turner was coaching for Michigan?

Ron won't hire anyone he doesn't know and only promotes from within! Wahhh!

Ron made an outside of the box hire to bring some new blood to the team! Wahhh!

Make up you mind people, and for anyone say Buckner let it go. If you want Pep you are not getting Buck, bad blood there since Buck decided he wanted to get on the radio every week and trash Pep. It wasn't going to happen.

I'm always down for "outside the box" and new blood

A lot of you people bitch about the same ole same ole and status quo with the panthers and when they do go outside the box you still bitch.

Guess we'll just see what we see.

Welcome Brady Hoke

Keep Pounding!

that's the spirit

Exactly. Do you think interacting with Derek Barnett last year is that different from this year? If you coached at a big time college you’ve worked with a lot of guys in the pros now.

I don’t know how this hire will go but he’s coached enough NFL talent and he’s got enough DL coaching experience that it should allow Washington to be the DC and concentrate on just that and hopefully the DL will be as good and not drop off like the secondary did.

Brady Hoke never coached Derek Barnett

Only thing I can think of is Hoke was doing good things at San Diego State while Rivera was coaching with the Chargers. Maybe Rivera noticed or they crossed paths somewhere.
