In some news that's unrelated to football that will make some Panthers fans uneasy, the Carolina Panther has officially been declared extinct by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

The animal that somewhat inspired the NFL franchise's mascot name upon its inception in 1995, also known as Catamounts, Pumas, Painters, and Eastern Cougars, has ceased to exist for 80 years. The last documented sighting of a Carolina Panther was in 1938 in Maine, according to the report, so this final declaration of an extinction has been a long time coming.

“No states or provinces provided evidence of the existence of an eastern cougar population, nor did analysis of hundreds of reports from the public suggest otherwise," the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service release stated. "While many suspected cougar sightings are probably mistakenly identified bobcats or other animals, cougars do occasionally occur in eastern North America, but they are cougars of other subspecies: either Florida panthers, animals dispersing from western populations, or animals that have been released or escaped from captivity.”

The Carolina Panther once dominated the east coast before its population began to be wiped out by humans out of fear for safety and were victims to massive deforestation and over harvesting of white-tailed deer, which the Cougars primarily hunted. Most believe the population of the Panthers started to dwindle in the 1800s.

Right after we hired Hurney back to kill our Carolina Panthers, the real Panthers are killed 4 good.

The eastern mountain lion is extinct, but there will be an established population of mountain lions in the east during most of our lifetimes. They're already establishing themselves in the midwest and one was hit by a car in Connectivity a few years back. They'll expand their territory in due time.

this is utter bullshit. I live in the foothills of the western Carolinas. People still see Panthers over here all the freaking time. sometimes we even see black ones. the Fish & Wildlife Service is full of :poo:

People see lots of things. Things like bigfoot and ghosts. Doesn't necessarily make them real.

If that is the case, it shouldn't be too difficult to capture them on video and forward that evidence to the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  Thanks in advance for your efforts.

I'm not saying they're lying. I'm saying that it's highly, highly probable that they're simply mistaken.
