Jason La Confora: "hearing that Park Avenue is putting pressure on [Panthers] to go outside the organization for their hires and make this go away."

Sounds like these are false accusations so this sucks. Not saying Hurney is the best GM but people shouldn't lose jobs over false accusations.

There were posts saying this was a gift from god. God gives gifts of abuse so that football fans can get new GMs.

This is the level we are working with here.

So making two moves, both by the way were the right move at the time they were made, set us back 10 years? Huh..

Everyone talks about these 10 year setbacks but there's no such thing. The Redskins were back in the playoffs three years after that disastrous RG3 trade. We went to the Super Bowl six years after that disastrous Sean Gilbert trade. The Lions were in the playoffs three years after Millen's reign of terror ended. We made the playoffs in three straight seasons including a SB run after firing Hurney for tanking the franchise.

Agreed on that.

It's pretty much the same as with Richardson. While I'm happy that we're getting a new owner, I wouldn't have wanted it to happen like this.

This might be a situation that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The Panthers may have gone out of their way to promote their image by only interviewing black candidates but what if the best candidates available happened to be black?

JR might be pushing to get Hurney as permanent GM to keep a presence in the organization but some guys on message boards have figured that out then surely the potential new owners and their informants/lawyers would be on top of this and, with the apparent support of the NFL, do everything they could to prevent Jerry from hiring him.

in reality Hurney himself should do the right thing and step aside for new leadership. the charge he was given when hired was to lead the team through the season and identify a candidate to lead them going forward. he said as much in his introductory press conference when hired. even providing for the unique situation with Richardson and the team sale, he has failed on the latter duty. and now a situation revolving around him is directly affecting the schedule for hiring a leader in football ops. a little professional integrity on his part would go a long way towards simplifying the situation and a clear direction for the team going into the offseason.

I don't want Marty Hurney but I'll never blame someone for declining the opportunity to walk away from a paycheck.

Maybe it isn't about the paycheck.

Just spitballing here, but Hurney has talked a lot about how much he loves what he's doing. It could be as simple as that, or it could be that plus wanting to prove that he's actually better than how he looked before.

If that were so, my response would be that while I love a good redemption story, do it somewhere else. And don't start at the top. Work your way up from the bottom and earn it. Others have done this, so why not?

I think you can call down with your throwing now. You've thoroughly saturated the wall with mud.

    • It's definitely a historical issue at QB but to be perfectly blunt, we also don't do a good job of really developing almost any position if you look at the last decade or so. I tend to be on the side of that being far less a development issue than an evaluation deficiency.  I think we are in the situation at QB2/3 recently due to the overall roster being absolutely abhorrent and the QB classes being quite thin. It is harder to justify another Matt Corral(or several) when you can potentially get a real two deep contributor at other positions.  But, it was a lot of hard work to get to the point where are roster is so incredibly bad that luxury picks literally are not in our vocabulary.  This is the reaping what you sow portion of our history.
    • That is what I meant about our front office. They are like someone filling out a March Madness bracket based on preference of uniform colors and mascots. There's no rhyme of reason to some of these fugg'n mind numbing decisions they make.  They go all in on these flimsy-@ss prospects and are gun shy when it comes to more solid prospects.  It's literally maddening and the reason I stopped being so emotionally involved in this team. Heck the only reason I'm active on the board today is one, it's my day off and two, it's cut down time.
