A deeper look at David Tepper

Mr. Scot

I'm personally pulling for the guy. He'd be a prick, but he'd be our prick. Guy would operate from a completely different place than Richardson. Kick ass or get kicked to the curb.

You want a nice friendly family atmosphere that is content with the status quo or do you want rings?

I think this guy would be ruthless in pursuit of winning.

Still say watch out for the local guys

Yeah, don't think so.

Listening to Sabates talk about how they have to "be smart" and "make sound business decisions", I'm pretty sure he and his group realize they're outmatched.

Basically, we might actually try to operate like the Steelers instead of just talking about how much we want to be like them.

Said it before: If I've got a desk at Bank of America Stadium right now, I'm probably quietly taking home all of my personal items.

At this point it is hard to say how he would be. He could be great or another Jerry Jones. He is the minority owner in Pittsburgh and owns 5% . Hardly enough to have any say. So is he in step with the Steelers or thinks there are a lot of things he would change? I think anything but a wait and see attitude would be unfounded at this point. The attitude that anything is better than what it we currently have has often proven to not be true.

If Gettleman were an abrasive cleanser, Tepper sounds like a wire brush.

This guy is a f*cking inspiration. I honestly want to be more like him. and i hope to God he buys the team. He's the type to do away with PSL owners selling to opposing fans (he'll want Panther-fan asses in seats), wine-and-cheesers telling us passionate fans to sit down (As you said, the Steelers fanbase is not known for being quiet), and will right this Ship of Franchise with the right people for the jobs instead of this damned "family" atmosphere that Richardson has tried to maintain for 22 years. Front office staff, coaches, players, scouts, and even impassionate fans are not safe and i couldnt be happier about it. the mascot of our team is a f*cking gigantic black cat. its edgy and powerful. Our team should reflect that. This guy will value winning and winning championships above all else, and thats what this franchise has lacked.

Im all for a "family" atmosphere, but first priority should always be winning/business. There's no need to be vulgar or pursue a bunch of Rae Carruth types, but if gameday was more edgy, the fans were allowed to be more, shall we say, unwelcoming to opposing fans, and we took a few more chances on insanely talented players with somewhat checkered pasts, i believe it would do the team good. and truth be told, in my personal life, the people ive most wanted to call "family" are those who are real and will come down in the mud and blood of the foxhole of life with me, and they havent been clean or innocent. apply this to the franchise, and i see it as a great thing.

anyway... /rant

I am laughing so hard at Mr. Scot right now and his love affair with Tepper.

If you only knew Mr. Scot. If you only knew...

I really don't see him having a love affair with Tepper.  He is just posting info on a guy that right now is the "leader" of the group.  I get the feeling Mr Scot would prefer option #4. someone not known yet.

Me personally bring on Tepper.

Here's to not knowing the difference between analysis and advocacy, right?

As to the options, my top choice right now is Navarro. I feel pretty comfortable saying that Tepper is going to end up being the owner though, and I'm okay with him too.

There may be names we don't know of at the moment, but I have a feeling Tepper having the favor of the NFL is a pretty difficult thing for anyone else to overcome.

I'm hoping we hear Ed DeBartolo Jr's name comes into play. He helped 49ers win their championships. I heard right when Richardson wanted to sell team he was interested. I think he would be the best choice by far. I want a winner and will spend money and quit being cheap.

    • Yeah but at least that QB would be not short.  I keep going back to the fact other than Wilson no other short QB has ever won a Super Bowl. The success rate of short QBs is very, very low. Like count on one hand low.  Yeah some people would include Brees too but I don’t consider a 6 foot tall QB short, imo.
    • I just rewatched all the highlights from after Bryce being benched. The Bryce hate needs to calm down a little bit. He showed a ton of potential the back half of the year. Same with Legette. They both made great plays when it mattered and a few mistakes when it counted. If we didn’t have a historically awful defense last year we could have ended even a bit better. Going into a brand new season we should be optimistic at least before game one. 2015 no one expected to go anywhere and the team steam rolled the league. I’m not saying that will happen, but hopefully we made strides to improve on the end of last year. Bryce put both Super Bowl teams in a battle last year and if we had a better D we could have taken them both. So at least look forward to the season and not past the season until it at least begins.
    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
