My take on this offseason: Attack FA and Trades Like Never Before

Its a pretty terrific FA crop to the point that I don't feel we need to go all out on players like Eric Ebron in an attempt to make something happen.

It is a good FA crop so we should get at least a couple guys from at least the mid tier to help.

I just pray we don’t hear the tired cliche about how free agency isn’t won on the first or second day. We’ve heard that the past few years, and all we have to show for it is an older roster that still hasn’t won a super bowl. I’d like for us to be aggressive in both free agency and trades, while aggressively trying to get younger as well.

That's a great point.

I'm not necessarily too concerned with making that big splash the first day (not that I wouldn't try), but from day one,  I would be trying to secure "my guy," and I don't care if he's the prize of the ball or not. I'm not waiting for dregs this year under any circumstances.

To getting younger, A-Rob,  Moncrief, Watkins, Richardson,  Jeremy Hill,  Isaiah Crowell, etc. would help us to get younger at important skill positions.  If Eli Apple is let go, and even the Honey Badger would help too.  But,  perhaps the best way to aggressively get younger is draft younger players who are worth a damn and replace dead weight.

I get the aggression part,  but we need controlled aggression because to Scot's point,  we aren't anywhere near flush in cash.

I would ax Ryan Kalil if I had to in order to make some moves.

For me, being proactive has always been as important as being aggressive.

There are 3 good Centers in this draft and we could get one with our 2nd round pick too if needs be.

Daniels, Ragnow, Price

It's also worth noting that we're not in a great cap position for this kind of scenario.

This - I don't know how much money people think there is. I am not a cap guy but isn't it something around the $25M mark? That isn't a lot when you have to still resign Peppers (if he comes back), sign draft picks, plus there are some real concerns with overall depth in a few areas that will be an issue when injuries happen throughout the year.

Make a big splash with a big name and that leaves room for nothing else and problems down the road. This seems like a tough year to sort all this out honestly.

Barring any changes in FA, trade for Michael Bennett, sign Eric Reid and Paul Richardson/Mike Wallace. Wallace would be a shorter cheaper deal but Richardson is younger and gives us depth in the event we can’t sign Funchess. Then have a helluva draft.

Going for the All Protest Team?

That might fly post Richardson.

Haha! I thought the same thing. But I was thinking production/salary>Baggage. Bennett is on a good contract and keeps him away from the Falcons and also addresses an area of need and Reid probably drove down his value by kneeling.

I think it is win now

luke is one concussion away from career over

but, if they wanted to win now they would have gotten rid of TD and Ryan and freed up space

they didn’t

they would have kept Buckner and gotten rid of Gano and his  money last year  they didn’t

new owner coming in might turn the flame up  we shall see

Who?

Um, it is the exact opposite. Why would you rely on a rookie kicker and cut 2 veteran leaders if you are in "win now" mode?

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
