Peppers Situation UPDATE —Voth chimes in

It's really curiously quiet on the Peppers front right now, now a day into the "legal" tampering period, and even before that. It's kind of fascinating to me that not a single report has come out about Pep other than "he's deciding on his future" from our own reporters. No other teams have had any connection whatsoever to Pep. Not the Pats, Bucs, Raiders, or whoever else was "linked" to him... I wonder if this means that the only thing up in the air is whether he'll play or not and that it is true that he'd only play here if he decides to come back. But he may just be leaning towards retirement coming off a serious surgery... Do you think the lack of chatter completely across the league points towards the likelihood that Pep either retires or stays here? Really interesting situation.

UPDATE: Just saw this:

Voth takes a stance that it’s Panthers or retirement. Good to hear. fug the Pats.

Just now, Jon Snow said:

He gone.

If there were truly serious interest from other teams and any kind of mutual interest from Pep's side, that would've gotten out by now. In today's day and age you don't keep any of that under wraps this far into the offseason.

It sounds like it's a decision that goes beyond just money. If that's the case, with all the factors in play right now....he gone.

You can be mad at him if you want, but we basically all but packed his bags for him when he and the rest of the players were handcuffed from protesting last year.

Who knows? You're also assuming that just because news hasn't broke of it that means no other teams have been in contact. That seems a bit optimistic. I doubt very seriously that Peppers hasn't had other teams reach out to him to check on his potential availability and compensation demands. Even if he's only interested in playing for us, I'm sure his agent is fielding those calls to get an idea of what other teams would be willing to offer. Kind of tough to judge the market value of a 38 year old pass rusher coming off of a double digit sack season. Not exactly many comps out there for that type of player.

Didn't say it was to another team.  But you never heard anything about the Jags and Norwell either, so? If the Patriots don't sign him he will retire.  He ain't signing on with Hurney at the helm.  You guys need to accept that.

    • Bryce just didn't maximize Hunter Renfrow's skills. ***rant incoming*** But this isn't just about Bryce Young mistiming passes to Renfrow so bad that he's going to get Renfrow killed or hurt, this is also about incompetentence by Dave Canales. Renfrow can still play. He's putting DBs in a blender out there---making them play twister at the top of routes to keep up with him, and dumb Dave has the nerve to cut him. How about putting Hunter in the best position to help the damned offense by appreciating his skill set, DC? You're letting Bryce's apparent inability to make an accurate throw, or at least his timidity to push the ball down the damned field cloud your judgment and miscalculate talent---or maybe just miss on talent just as much as Bryce misses passes due to playing pussified football. It's fúcking unacceptable.  Speaking of misjudgment, I don't know if it's Dan Morgan or Canales, but Eijiro Evero is not the business at DC. I have said a few times that his scheme is not conducive to run-stopping efficiency. Hell, and after watching some clips of plays, now I absolutely know why. The gaps are at least half open before the play even fúcking starts. You are setting the opposition's RBs up for success with too much damned space at the line and in the second level. If our guys are taken out in these areas---at the line and in the second level---then the defense is screwed because it must rely on the safeties to cover too much ground to make the tackle. At least put Ransom in who is motivated to seek and destroy if you're going to effectively leave the safeties on an island.  And speaking of rookies, get our two new defensive ends more snaps to see if we can't generate more of a pass rush. For all the good the continued sorry display of defense that you're putting out for fan's to see (Ejiro, Dave and Dan), you may as well get the rookies generously involved. Fúck that money we gave second-rate (maybe second-rate) vets, we need a damned spark getting after the QB. Watch it, it's just another breakdown of the sh¡t we were subjected to last week. I say this with all respect: Fúck you, Dave! Fúck you, Dan! Learn how to run a fúcking franchise. Maximize the players, regardless of what you think you're supposed to do by the book. Cut the dead weight before another season is lost and fans lose interest in September. EE is "Ew!" Or for emphasis "EEw!" /end rant
    • But nobody is saying he is a good deep ball passer.  But the facts are since he's returned from his benching, he has been throwing downfield.  Whether you want to credit the scheme, Bryce himself, or whatever, he has been pushing it deep.  Not to any positive results mind you, but it has been happening.
