That is why I could never understand why some folks buy a new pickup truck and then baby it--scared to scratch it or put miles on it.

Therefore, I am advocating that the big car factories only manufacture used trucks.

I have more ideas too.  Not just that one.

SO youre gunna buy a pickup and not haul rocks and dirt and poo that its used for so you can have it last for an extra year or two?

These local media people Panthers have are a joke. How about asking good questions.

- How did the Breshaud Breeland failed physical affect your free agency and draft plans?

- Is there a chance Breeland signs after the draft or when healthy enough to pass a physical?

- Will you explore FA options, safeties perhaps, after the May 7th date (5/1 date free agents won't count against comp pick formula)

I love how folks put stock in what they are saying. This is planned and rehearsed and they are saying nothing. If you think they are idiots then they accomplished their goal. Which was say alot and say nothing at all. I think people here actually think they are being honest and candid anytime they speak to the public. That is what the great bluffers do. Convince you of their sincerity and transparency while keeping everything close to the vest.

I'll say it again, WE ARE TRADING DOWN

I second this.

Here is why:  Everyone is worried about the fifth year option being lost if we trade out of the first round.  Stupid logic when you have this many needs.

Getting 2 players, one of the same value if you had reached in the first round, actually saves money.  Now you get 2 players on rookie deals for a combined 8 years.  That is cheaper than one player on a first round contract and a fifth year option.

Due the Maff.

Let's say we trade the #24 pick and a fourth rounder in 2019 to Cleveland for picks 35 (second round),  64  (second round).  Cleveland could move up for a third first rounder.  That gives the Panthers 5 picks in the first two days of the draft.

Pick #24 costs a team $11.2 m for 4 years.

Pick #35 costs a team $7.4m for 4 years.

Pick #64 costs a team $4.8m for 4 years

Therefore, pick #24 for 4 years costs $250k less per season than the #35 and #64 picks combined.

However, if you add the fifth year option, the salary increases about $8.7 m.  So.....

Therefore, dropping back 11 places is cheaper than reaching.  The fifth year is not really worth it, financially, especially if the first rounder is not worth the $8.7m.

I think that makes sense.

After watching that press conference, I have zero faith in Ron and Marty to make the right pick at 24.

This just tells me that's how you felt about Hurney before the press conference.

You get out of the presser what you want to get out of it.

You got the poo you wanted.

Congrats.

Heck, if anyone got anything out of this presser, it's just what they wanted and expected to get out of it.  In truth, they pretty much said nothing and gave nothing away about anything.
