Did anyone else want to see “more” while watching D.J Moore’s tape?

There’s no debating that D.J Moore easily has the highest potential of any WR in this draft. With that being said, am I the only one who is concerned with how much of his yardage and big plays came from quick catches and screens? Yes, he has special RAC ability which is great, but we already have Samuel, CMC who are mainly short to intermediate RAC guys.. While watching his tape, I just wish he showed more evidence of exhibiting pure wide receiver traits with crisp route running, down the field playmaking ability and high pointing the ball  on a consistent basis which is what this offense lacks most imo

Calvin Ridley was on the board who embodies what a pure WR inhibits (crisp routes, separation, stretching the field, RAC etc). He performed at a high level vs elite SEC competition since he was a freshman but we passed. Only to be drafted by the Falcons with the next pick who have shown the ability to scout the position through the draft and FA at a high rate.

Can Moore be a great WR for us? Of course. But he could also be a Percy Harvin in the NFL who never meets expectations despite crazy athleticism and production is college

I just don’t see Moore as a slam dunk pick like some of you guys.

Moore is the next Antonio Brown - he's that good at processing the game and defying coverage. He's going to be very difficult to shut down. Barring injury, we've got a gold jacket type on our hands. My main worry is that playing under a weak QB will inhibit his development, but I think that's a minor factor overall.

There's a reason Walt Bell spent last year screaming to anyone who'd listen how special this kid was. Steal of the draft IMO.

Moore isn’t a “pure WR”. As I said in another thread this organization loves to sacrifice skill for versatility.

Norv better know exactly what he’s doing with Moore or this pick will blow up in their faces and it’ll sting even more knowing Ridley was there.

You don’t need a good QB to assess a WR on a lot of things.

2018 NFL Combine, Saturday: After measuring in bigger and more explosive than expected, Maryland wide receiver DJ Moore has been one of the bright spots of the Combine. Throughout most of the Friday's workout, Moore also looked the part of a potential top 40 pick. However, he did fail to track and haul on a couple of passes thrown over his shoulder, including one particularly well-thrown post-corner by Shimonek. With so much of his production at Maryland derived from quick screens and underneath routes, scouts will be looking for improvement by Moore in this area at his Pro Day. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftscout.com

We already have Funchess he struggles with over the shoulder balls.

I really hope the plan is to use Moore a lot like the Dolphins use Landry. I think Moore can be successful in that type of role. But all these Steve Smith, Antonio Brown comparisons need to stop. Antonio Brown has some of if not the best footwork when it comes to his route running, that’s not Moore at all.

Dude his QBs ducked and he was on a bad offense. They had to get him the ball quickly and on short throws because that's pretty much all the QBs could complete.

Yeah.

I think at one point in Maryland's season, they had a punter playing QB because their top 4 QBs were hurt. I doubt the guy could even throw it 20 yards

Gonna have to go with the coaches who spent weeks making the decision to draft this kid than some random dude who watched a few highlight videos.  He had no one throwing him the ball...bunch of bums that could probably only throw short yardage passes and he had to create from there.  As they stated after the draft they were most impressed with his YAC abilities.  Will he pan out to being a pro-bowler?  only time will tell.  The NFL makes and breaks would be stars all the time.  I think it seems like he has the drive to be great considering all I have read about him but again, we won't know till later on in the next few seasons.

Dude your just as bad as this other guy on here RunHam. Y'all need to just go pull for another team. You don't anything and I've heard a bunch of people say he reminds them of Brown and Smith. Don't get why y'all are so negative, Ridley is terrible and glad we didn't draft him. He isn't even a first rounder imo.

    • What?!?!?! Chark's 1,000 yard season was 4 years before he played for us and he only had 525 yards in 15 games as our #1 WR.  Dude has 3,100 yards in 7 seasons, he's the literal definition of a JAG and you think he is better than half our current WR room? T-Mac is literally already better than Chark was at his peak, which again, was years before he ever even put on a Panthers uniform, and there is a real argument to be made that XL and Coker were both better as rookies than Chark was for us in his one season here.
    • Im glad we're starting low. It's nonsensical to put us at 28 IMHO based on objective things IMHO (I think 21-24) is far more appropriate but whatever. Washington was at the bottom last year FWIW.  In 2003, Sports Illustrated said our best chance to win the division was to transfer to the ACC. In 2015, everyone wrote us off as a team that snuck into the playoffs with a losing record in 2014 and lost our best WR in TC (Kelvin Benjamin). All these videos are fodder for conversation, but this prediction has no more validity than saying the Panthers are making the SB bc we're starting the season against the Jaguars again. If Bryce plays like he did down the stretch we will end up the season just fine. This roster is much better than it has been the last 2 seasons. No one knows who any season will ultimately end up, but this team is finally being built in the right way, and the idea that this roster can't compete this year is as insane as being it was when we were gaslit in 2023 that we were a rookie QB from winning the division with that roster.
