What if Marty Hurney

Recommended Posts

Im hoping Marty Hirney transformed and learned from his past mistakes    To make a hell of a football life doc

I think the new owners will keep the Cam/Rivera/Marty regime intact until its clear that a rebuild is needed. No infusing football decision makers just to do it. Perhaps replace top front office guys but none of the football guys.

depends, if this team goes to say the nfccg it would be foolish to fire him. if he drills at least 2 of the picks and they become stars you cant really remove him unless his fa blow up. he looks good so far, i would wait until he has a giant fug up if he does. he looks like a top 10 gm so far tbh.

As much as I can’t stand Hurney, it really does look like he mostly nailed his draft. There’s a couple picks I would have really liked to have seen gone a different way (like Harrison instead of gauldin) but this is the best I’ve felt right after a Hurney draft ever. The conundrum is whether we want to wait and see if he fugs it all up again (highly likely if he sticks around) or have blind faith that he magically became a competent GM. If he did pull of that transformation, it would be nothing short of a miracle.

I would hope everyone changes and grows over time. That is an essential part of maturing. The changes likely reflect better scouting and input from the team he assembled. He didn't do it in a vacuum.

He did say he learned from his mistakes.   I can't help also believing JR had something to do with our CAP Hell he put us in a couple of years back.

JR did cause by dumping all the vets after 2009 and going youth in 2010 in prep for a long night holdout which didn't happen. Then we were do bad in 2010 that fans has no confidence we wanted to win and field a competitive team. So to instill faith we grossly overpaid Johnson and Williams and Stewart to demonstrate our commitment. Hurney made mistakes but JR was at the root of it.

Time will tell .  If this draft turns out to be very good and he can do reasonable contracts , he will stay until Rivera is let go and a total rebuild is needed .   i look forward to training camp to see how this pans out . Most analyst give him a B or better this draft .

Of course JR had something to do with that, all the people putting that completely on hurney are just turning a blind eye.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
