Would you rather have Derwin James?

Recommended Posts

I read an interesting article recently that proposed that we could have had Derwin James at pick 16.

The decision that may loom largest for Hurney and the Panthers was one they ultimately did not make. Shortly after the Saints made a splash to select Marcus Davenport with the 14th pick, the Panthers had a brief window, along with the rest of the league, to make a trade up the board for FSU safety Derwin James. Ultimately, the 16th pick was snatched up by the Bills, for the price of pick 22 and 65, meaning the Panthers potentially could’ve snagged it for 24 and 55. The discussions of Haynes as a ‘Joker’, Gaulden being able to cover tight ends and Jackson’s speed could’ve been answered in the form of one selection.

My question to the Huddle is looking back on the draft would you have done the trade?

I’m happy with who we have. Mainly because we needed to ensure Cam had talent around him regardless of injuries this season. And Cam personally thanked Ron for taking D.J. So if he feels he needs him then I am good with that because Cam has more than proven he can carry a team.

We have done a good job of helping the defense. Searcy is a decent stop gap and Jackson can be a #2 corner and has the speed to run with deep threats. That makes the older vets we have at safety’s job easier.

The draft is an absolute crapshoot. Generally speaking, the more picks you have, the better the chances of landing good players.

So DJ plus Gauldin hopefully will produce more than James alone.

The one exception to this is if you need a QB. Pay whatever it takes to land your guy.

I wanted James bad. If u asked me on draft day u would have done it. But now that we are filling holes and signing Anderson and even hood it looks like hurney had a plan. I’m ok with this.that said I’m not sure Moore is a star. I know James is. So it’s yet to be seen..

    • Rotating in Chuba was beyond stupid and really hurt our offense overall. We’ve been in a good rhythm the last 6 quarters or so but Canales figured disrupting that with Chuba would be worth it Rico fits this offense so much better than Chuba    As far as grades go I know that ain’t our RB1, starting Center and our supposedly deep WR room and exciting talented young TE in dead last. Weird. I wonder if that has any correlation on QB play  Even that first incomplete ball Bryce threw in the end zone that hit Legette’s hands. Legette had no business being there so early. Legette went into scramble drill when that ball was intended for Coker who led up because of the traffic there
    • Yeah Jets have pretty much been in every game they've played and have barely lost to really good teams. They are much better than their record says Imo
    • I kinda just wanna see what the offense can do with a QB who has proven he can move the football in the NFL. If Dalton wasn't a shadow of his former self I'd be fine with him but Father Time has definitely caught up with him. If we start piling up the losses as the schedule gets tougher and the passing offense continues to be anemic that might cast Canales his job and it's worth a very low risk move IMO to at least give him a fighting chance. The thought of yet another Tepper rebuild just isn't at all exciting to me having already seen a few of them. I'm about giving this current guy a fighting chance.
