Gantt believes the league will force a sale to Tepper

Listening to WFNZ while taking my wife to a doctor's appointment. They interviewed Joe Person about Peyton Manning and Darin Gantt talked with Chris Kroeger about it afterwards.

Two things stood out:

First off, Person characterizes the sale as down to a "two horse race" between Navarro and Tepper. People who were turned off by the Kestenbaum profile will probably be happy to hear that.

The bigger story, though? Gantt says the reason for the holdup is that the league is trying to force Jerry Richardson to sell to David Tepper, and they're using the investigation as leverage.

Gantt further stated that Navarro's overtures to Peyton Manning are a "Hail Mary" desperation attempt to get the league's approval. Both he and Kroeger also theorized that Mark Richardson was speaking for his father when he stated his preference for Ben Navarro.

But even so, Gantt says he's seen nothing over the last several weeks to indicate that this story is going to end in anyting but a sale to David Tepper.

The league apparently wants Tepper that badly.

El oh El.   Can this get any crazier?   Looks like old Jerry doesn't have the favor of the league anymore.  All those years protecting the "shield" won't even allow him to sell to the highest bidder.  Talk about a fall from Grace.

I haven't really had anything against Tepper to this point, but this is bulls--t.

My number 1 choice was Rubin, but obviously that ship has sailed. When it comes to Navarro or Tepper, it is a coin flip to me. I would be fine with either, so my comments have nothing against Navarro. But I think the league should have say here. This isn't just a normal sale of a team. In reality Jerry is being forced out and should be stripped of his rights. If the bids are similar then i think the NFL has the right to get involved here.

now the reason they prefer tepper over Navarro is a different story completely.

They shouldn't describe it as a "sale", sale implies that it is an auction to the highest bidder.

They should say, whoever we invite to the club that can afford it.

why does the league have such a hard on for Tepper? I know he was already vetted but what other than that makes him better?

Why ask why?  You are the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, NC-you will eat $hit and LIKE IT.

That's it. Rich people making a profit prefer to keep it that way. Tepper's already in the club and Navarro's an unknown.

Sounds like Teller will be the new owner then. The league has the leverage.

How so? My guess would be that JR has all the leverage. His rep is already trash and the only thing the league can do in the case that he picks Navarro is vote against him becoming owner.

For a league with more bad PR right now than maybe anytime in it’s history, do they really want to vote against a guy from the teams state that spends millions helping educate kids. Would that really be a good look?

    • I don't really care but I think a team making a playoff push later in the season with injury issues would give up the same compensation the Vikings are offering now. I also don't see why so many people think the Vikings are ready for a playoff push when JJ Mccarthy hasn't even played an NFL regular season game
    • This is where I am at also. Vikings literally have no other receiver outside of Jefferson week 1. I'm pretty sure their slot receiver from last year was pretty awful and they wouldn't mind upgrading with Thielen over nailor. If they aren't going to at least offer us a fourth, then keep them on the team. There will be other teams that have injured receivers that will want him later on in the season
    • .a wildly inconsistent & undersized Qb who has had way many more lows than highs in his NFL carrer .& a defense that has more holes than whac-a-mole so yeah i am very curious slash semi excited  to see what actually happens?
