Only 4 teams have more wins than the Panthers in the past 5 years.

Andy Reid for ya.

Dude is a great coach...during the regular season.  His offenses often get bottled up during the playoffs, and his clock management skills, much like Rivera, are pretty bad for a coach this long in the tooth.

Yep. His only playoff win in that span is a victory over a Brian Hoyer led Texans team.

Well, Reid did mentor Rivera.

Compare Rivera's regular season win total during his first 7 years (64 wins) to that of John Fox during his first 7 years (63 wins).

With Cam at QB Rivera has managed only one more win than Fox.

Or another way of looking at it, Fox averaged 9 wins/season and Rivera has averaged 9.14 wins/season thru their first 7 years as HC.

Not really that impressive.

Sanjay is trying to argue that, given his record, anyone who dislikes Rivera must be racist.

I pointed out that, following that same logic, and factoring in that Gettleman presided over the same period Rivera did, it would then follow that anyone who disliked Gettleman was anti-Semitic.

Basically, Sanjay just called himself a racist

this is not the tinderbox. keep it out of here.

I cleaned up the thread, but i'm leaving this in here just so people are reminded of what kind of stuff isn't going to fly in here.

And even with that, no back-to-back winning seasons.

Feast or famine.

I really think we have a good chance of finally achieving back-to-back winning seasons this year.

Disclaimer:  I've been saying this biennially for the last 20 years, so take it with a grain of salt.

I have finally given up all hope, so anything more than The Worst will feel like a positive to me.

This could well be the season I just keep up with the standings and stats via the internet and not invest so much in the NFL because I'm slowly starting to hate The Shield and the people who run it and the people who play in it with a passion.

The NFL has been the Big Bully on the Block of Professional Sports in this country since at least the late 1970's and the inheritors of that legacy only want to take a dump on it.  Amazing.

    • If we lose tomorrow we’d have to sweep the Bucs in order to get into the playoffs. With a loss tomorrow the Bucs would then hold the tie breaker if we finished tied If we can’t split with NO then we sure as hell not sweeping Tampa It’s win or go home tomorrow in my eyes  Biggest game since 2017 playoff game imo
    • Grok AI: No, there are no credible reports that the Carolina Hurricanes offered Jake Guentzel the same contract terms as Tampa Bay (7 years, $63 million total, $9 million AAV) before he signed with the Lightning. Reliable sources, including The Athletic, consistently reported that Carolina’s offer during negotiations was an eight-year deal worth $64 million ($8 million AAV). Guentzel did not accept it promptly, leading the Hurricanes to trade his negotiating rights to Tampa Bay on June 30, 2024, for a 2025 third-round pick. He then quickly signed the 7x$9M deal with the Lightning on July 1, 2024. Guentzel himself later reflected (in 2025 interviews) that staying in Carolina was his initial preference, but negotiations stalled and “didn’t work out,” with Tampa’s opportunity becoming a “no-brainer.” No reports from outlets like ESPN, NHL.com, or insiders (e.g., Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun, Frank Seravalli) indicate Carolina ever matched or offered the Lightning’s exact terms—total money, AAV, or length. The extra year was Carolina’s key advantage, but they reportedly stuck closer to $8M AAV and moved on when Guentzel explored options.
