So, I asked Gil Brandt about Norv

On Sirius NFL Radio Late Hits they wanted to talk about coaches...I called in and asked what we could expect Norv's impact to be on our offense.

Gil said he has known him since Norv was a college QB.   Raved about how smart he is, hard worker, etc.  I liked these 3 things:

  • Said he calls a lot of screens (some Panther fans may not recognize that play)
  • Said 2 or 3 times that he is a great play caller
  • Mentioned that he is a developer of QB's and quoted Aikman as saying he would not have been the player he was if it were not for Norv.

I am very excited about our OC. Some of you may have already guessed that....lol.

This will be a very good year.

I have an extremly good feeling intuitivly about Norv and our offense as a whole.

I think the offense will be really, REALLY good.

Cam with decent coaching, playcalling,   Healthy Samuel, new peice in Moore, I think Funchess breaks out with Norv....

The Kalils healthy, RBs stacked..

gatDAMN i caint wait

Nice job calling in and getting Gil's opinion!

I was encouraged by the latest Panthers Podcast.  Bryan, Bill &Max all mentioned that Norv was very vocal on the field during OTAs / Mini Camp. Much more hands on than Shula who stayed in the background.  I think we really needed this change.

I've really begun to wonder lately what exactly Shula and Dorsey did do.

Sure as heck doesn't sound like they did a lot of coaching.

It showed too. Shula's game plan wasn't terrible but almost everything after that was. Having Norv might just be what a few of our players need.

Shula certainly succeeded as a quarterback coach. He's just not an OC.

    • You would hope so. I’m confused why the sports world seems split on Bryce when he’s obviously not working out.
    • So let’s do the reverse? Make everyone agree everything he does is a disaster? I also think the whole “gaslighting” is on the eye of the beholder. It went from he can’t avoid one single sack countered with he actually did that well Sunday (with data backing it) to a little breakdown of why he is so bad. People are going to have different opinions. I’m also not going to pretend this wasn’t happening Day one with this little QB.
    • All this great stuff he has done, how often does he do it?  I have it at three or four games out of 14 where he was very good and then you get a drive here or a series there where there are some good things. Here is the gaslight part: everyone has put him on a curve with his first year the baseline, neglecting to understand how bad he was then. Even if he comes back twice as good, where does that really leave him? 25th ranked or thereabouts.     He had so far to go, and still does, it is a Major ‘settle’ to accept his play as worthy of giving him our future.  You want to settle when the Bucs have Mayfield, and the Saints have overtaken us at QB? We will be third in the division at QB. That is good enough for y’all?
