Turner wants Newton to be more consistent

I think that Rivera is going to display markedly more deference to Turner than he did to Shula. He, and virtually the whole NFL, respect Turner for a reason.

It's a different day, with different weapons. On paper, the offense is as complete as it has been at any time during Cam's tenure. I would guess that Turner has a lot to do with that. Turner was hired to help Cam get to the next level, so I would think that Rivera is not going to hinder Turner towards that end.

Right.  Turner is not the type of OC you bring in to run the system you want him to run.  You bring in a coordinator like that to install their system their way.

As I see it there are three step that had to be done for this to be reality

1) Get Newton a great OC, which he has not had almost his entire NFL life

2) Get people around him, so he dont have to carry the entire O

3) Make Newton trust the people from number 2. Lets be honest, that has some times been a problem.

As I see it. Number 2 is done. This is the best supporting Newton have had while here. Number 1 might be done, Norv is or was a mastermind. I am optimistic about number 1. This leave number 3... For this to happen Newton will have to work on him self and the supporting cast need to get the job done.

NFL Network is showing last year's playoff game against the Saints.

I had forgotten that we had trouble getting the second play of the game in and had to call a timeout.

Good grief, why the hell did we keep Shula for so long? :eyeroll:

Neither of them are good, the only difference is that the only time we use the no huddle is in desperation.

We certainly did use the no huddle at the end of our halfs this year. But since we practice the 2 minute drill every day in practice, it surely shouldn't be desperation time but a critical part of our offense. Plus the defense is in prevent mode and we still completed less than 50% of our passes. Funny that the huddle keeps wanting the no huddle since everything is in Cam's hands and yet at least last year the no huddle was much worse than when a play was called in the huddle.

You could eliminate a lot of the “bad stuff” if you’d just allow Cam to be Cam. Give him the freedom to make changes/audibles and most importantly utilize the no huddle offense more than once a month.

If OC’s would move their ego’s aside and forget about putting their own stamp on each game this team would be 100x better.

I don't know I would go that far but definitely allowing Cam to be Cam within the framework of the gameplan would be acceptable.  Cam is a great QB and does not get the credit for reading a defense.   If the play called feeds right into that defense than change the play at the line is something he should have the power to do.

To call Cam perfect would be pretty much a homer comment.  I do believe that many of his "off games" had more to do with lousy play calling. and Cam trying to make something happen.   Cam, as most of us believe, is a winner and when the plays being called are so lousy he tries to make something out of nothing.

I believe just the presence  of Turner calling the plays will eliminate many of those off games.

An article from 2014 isn't relevant now. Thanks for playing. Let's just see what Norv does.

And it still holds truth till today. Rivera will always sacrifice the offense if it means helping out his defense.

Cause even in those desperation times when the opposing defense was playing prevent we were still throwing down field and usually Cam was having a horrible game. IE the first saints game
