Heinicke

Idk, i wasnt that impressed.  He has a noodle arm and isn't all that accurate.  His feet are nice, and nice quickness and athleticism shown on rollouts, but he also looks slight and weak.  I thought Gilbert, although not amazing, reinforced why he should be the backup if we're sticking with one of these guys.  My preference would still be to sign a vet, but i think it's too late for that.

He did a good job tonight and does deserve to go against the 2s with the 2s to see if he still looks this good. Gilbert's last drive was great and shows he takes coaching and can orchestrate a drive. What I liked about Heinicke is his mobility and ability to Russell Wilson. We need to hang on to him. He is a keeper.

I want to see more from both guys before I make a decision who's best.

I would say at this point, I don't feel the need to look for any outside help.

I respect your posts, and agree with you a lot, but I am surprised at that... you really think one of these guys could win a game for us if Cam goes down?

I still think Bridgewater is a good option for a conditional 7th. I don't think he will ever be able to regain his starting form, but I do think with his experience he could play and win games for us, especially given his history with Norv.

Not that these guys don't have potential, but neither has thrown a NFL regular season pass before. That seems crazy to me to roll the dice on that with a team coming off 11-5

I think what I'd like to have on the team and what it's reasonably possible to obtain are two different things.

It'd be great to have solid players backing up every position on the team, but obtaining that kind of depth while staying under the salary cap would require something just short of a miracle.

Could we trade something for a great backup like the Eagles had? Sure. All you have to do is 1) convince that guy it's a wise career move to backup someone who's been one of the more reliable starters in the NFL rather than seek a better shot at starting and 2) convince them to also take a pay cut that allows us to fit them under the cap we have left.

Mind you, you could also sign an available guy like Matt Moore. No loss of assets via trade there but the cap issue still applies. Even vet minimum for a guy like that is decent change.

Or failing all that, but understanding that realistically, most of the league (and quite possibly everybody except the Eagles) is screwed if they lose their starter anyway, you could go with what we have.

That may not seem ideal, but believe me when I say it's practical.
