Is Samuel in a no win situation this season?

Contrary to popular belief, Rivera is not blind and dumb, and neither is Turner. People cry about Ron's penchant for vets---hell, I've done it---but if a person has talent they will find themselves on the field in time. If they produce, they'll stay on it. Not worried at all. But, what I will say is that going against backups is not the same as battling among the ones. However, everything in good time. Trust the process!

Ronald is blind and slow to make changes lol.

Right now Samuel looks head a shoulder above every other WR on our roster including Byrd.  In the new NFL separation is the key and he can certainly do that.  He had the guy beat by 3 steps on that back shoulder fafe against the dolphins.

I'm just hoping the need to stretch the field makes him a must use option.  I'm just not sold on Smith as a consistent deep throat just yet.  Smith and Cam have had timing issues.

It's still early but I will love the day when both Samuel and Moore are on the field consistently.

Haven't seen Smith do a damn thing to and don't give me this he has veteran leadership. Cut him and save 5 million to go get u some more oline help. I don't care who gives me poo. He is not worth it to be sitting Samuel on the bench or bryd not making the 53. The people on here have gone crazy!

I would be all for that.

I agree that Samuel is now in a much tougher spot this year than last.  He has to compete with Wright, Smith,  and Moore for touches.  Last year the injuries killed his season, and his play had flashes and missteps.

His preseason looks excellent, so if he keeps doing what he's doing, he should have a pretty good year.  Probably not 1000 yards, but he could break 500.

He'll get his chances, hope he makes the most of them.

There will be plenty of balls to go around.  You may not see one player dominate, but you will see several have very good years.  And don't forget Samuel was a high 2nd round pick just last year, they want to get him on the field.  If he earns it, he'll get time over Smith and Wright.  He, along with DJ, are the future at WR.

Of course, with Kalil not showing well this week and our backup tackles not being NFL quality, we may be forced to trade one of our receivers for tackle help, which would make this a non-issue.

I'm truly not worried about our receiving core, and who gets.play time.

This. Why are people complaining about having depth at WR? WTF is going on? I want the team to be good and having a group of quality options is what we have here. It's what everyone said we should emulate in certain teams last season.

He could have a big year just coming off the bench, both him and Byrd. Imagine DBs having to sprint with Smith up and down the field a few times or getting leaned on by Funchess in the running game. Then you throw Samuel or Byrd at them with fresh legs on a 1st and 10 like a relief pitcher throwing fastballs. We should get 2-3 big plays a game like that with those guys.

Why you keep touting Samuel's potential over Moore's I'll never understand.

Samuel outs Moore in route running and ability at the line to beat press.

Compare Moore’s release in college to Samuel’s. Two different worlds. Samuel shows ability to get a good release, handle jabs, and stack the corner. Moore has an issue with jabs early at the line and gets stuck.

This really does affect how a receiver will fare playing on the outside. As of now, I don’t think Moore would be as successful as Samuel. Sure, technique can be taught, but from what I see in practice and preseason Moore has had issues with his release.

Athleticism aside from Julio Jones honestly is overrated. Most of the top WRs in the NFL rely on skillset and ability more-so than raw athleticism. Samuel has shown more in college as a complete WR despite being a RB/WR hybrid than Moore has imo. Shows that he already has a good foundation and has plenty of time to grow.

Mind you, I like them both. Moore easily can do damage as a short-intermediate with his YAC from the slot. I just doubt he’d be as successful on the outside unless he learns to counter jabs and fix his release on the line. Samuel has proven in college and in the NFL he can win with his release and succeed on the outside and slot.

I’m not complaining about having depth at all. I’m discussing Samuel’s unique situation coming off a Injury on a team that desperately needed Humm last season to a full House now. I don’t think there are as manly balls to go around as everyone else thinks. First off we’re  a runner heavy team. Cam averages nearly what 220 a game passing? Most targets will probably go to Olsen,CMC and funchess.

Then if there is any meat on the bone left I expect them to want to get Moore involved. Then comes Smith Wright Samuel. There definitely isn’t enough balls to go around when you expect your RB to catch 60-70 passes as well.

    • I mean I just don't understand the argument. Baker and Sam both have been pro bowl QBs post their time here. And you just said yourself that is due to him having a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. You're even saying the bad baker is still there somewhere, but he is in a good organization with good roster and coaching that they are getting the best out of him. Why does Baker and Sam get all that benefit of the doubt but when it comes to Bryce it must be a BY9 problem, not an org or team problem?  Hell I got a guy below you arguing with me that Chark/Hurst/Mingo sucked because Bryce wouldn't throw them open. It's ridiculous how far the stretch goes.
    • Correct.  It’s really hard to get open in the NFL when opposing defenses gameplan and cheat coverage/routes on all your players because they know your QB can’t make certain throws/plays.   magically no one that comes to Carolina can get open or make plays with the ball in their hands…..it’s like there is one singular common dominator to it all.  BY makes playing defense way too easy.   NFL players are too good to allow one side to cheat coverage and not respect all the potential threats of a route  so you can dial up a great play.  But if corners and safeties just cheat coverage and know X and Y happening on route/threats….getting open gets hard when they just play it one way.  Getting open has a lot to do with the different threats a WR can pose on a given play.
    • Kinda depends how you look at it both were 3rd round draft pics.  Nico was nothing before stroud and tank came in with stroud.  If both were on the panthers would young have them doing well and starting or would their stats be low.  I really dont know the answer to that.  None of the panthers wrs have left and did well either but personally i feel neither of nico or tank would do much on the panthers.
