Specific Player Questions: Who's In the Know?

I stopped paying attention to camp years ago and, although I watch the preseason games, it only really matters when the 53 is announced. That being said, what is the conventional wisdom on these guys:

1. DJ Moore: gotta be honest, I'm not that impressed with what I've seen in preseason. He's a first rounder and will be a starter by virtue of that, but what's the word around the Cedar Street practice facility? Is it adjustment, is it attitude, work ethic? I know he's a rookie, but I expected a little more. Hell, Samuel was hurt all last year and look at him.

2. CJ Anderson: why is he not getting touches? I assumed he was brought in as the #2 behind CMC and I certainly believe they are the 1-2 punch of the Panther backfield, but between Barner, CAP and Hood, he's not getting a lot of work. Do you really go out and get a 1000 yard rusher and shelf him?

Looking for some legit insight here... thanks!

I'm not an insider but I've been obsessing too much over preseason stuff since I have a ton of free time right now.

DJ Moore, most don't seem worried. His game vs. Buffalo was electric. I think it's just rookie adjustment, plus Norv not yet opening the playbook to feature plays that will highlight DJs talent

Re: Anderson, many of us think that the team wanted a more in depth chance to evaluate CAP and even potentially shop him to other teams by getting him on film vs the 1s and 2s instead of only playing vs the 3s and 4s.

CJ has so much value...running, catching passes and pass pro. Think we're just keeping him in reserve a bit.

I expect RBs to be CMC, CJ and Barner, personally.

No insider, but I assume CJ is seeing less carries, so that we can evaluate Cap/Barner/Hood. CJ is firmly locked in as our 2nd RB.

As for Moore, he's certainly been quiet since the Bills games.  That being said we saw plenty of reason to be optimistic about him in that game.

21, 18, 14. That's the carries for McCaffrey, Artis Payne, and CJ. Not too much difference in touches. That's less than 3 attempts per game separating them.

When they get them is what most have been focused on...

I don’t think Moore has played “bad” since buffalo.  Just hasn’t had any big wow moments.  Two things I’ll say

1. It’s preseason and reading too much into any stat line means your probably reading too much into it.

2.  I’ve seen YUUGE threads giving acclaodes to Ian Thomas, Curtis Samuel, Damierre Byrd, CMC and Jarius Wright.  This just in, we have a crowded offense with some really talented players.

Relax ax and back away from the ledge...

I haven't looked at any stats because it's preseason. I'm just watching the games and have questions about what I'm seeing.

Mick ("Rivera stands with arms crossed in front of his ample chest") Mixon cannot give any real commentary on the subject.

What is it with this board and rookie wide receivers... It's like they have no leash to be a rookie and have ups and downs. They must be Jerry Rice or Megatron from the first snap or they're a bust, at least that's what the sentiment looks like. I get that we were spoiled by Agent 89 for so many years but can we not give rookies year or two to catch on?

For some reason when I think about DJ Moore and even CJ for that matter I’m reminded of Chris Johnson’s rookie year with the Titans. That preseason Jeff Fisher kept CJ2K under wraps and I remember folks wondering why he wasn’t being used more in those preseason games. Of course Johnson went on to record almost 1,500 all purpose yards and finished second in OROY voting behind Matt Ryan (shiver).

So yeah, I’m gonna stay optimistic and assume these guys will show out when it matters.

    • I don’t think people are saying that picking up the option s a call for the pitchforks. We would have had to do things differently a couple of years back to make declining the option a valid move. We didn’t and here we are. People largely accept that. The patter it adheres to, reinforces the nausea we feel when the idea of an extension, and at top of the market no less, comes up.  One that he hasn’t shown he deserves.   Same as he did not deserve to be drafted 1.1. Look at Pavia and what really is the difference? Bryce is a nice guy and Pavia is an asshole lol. They are both no margin for error non day one talents. One went undrafted.
    • We hate losing. I don't know Bryce to hate him. His play as a QB, I absolutely hate. It's just not good enough. If there were a lottery held to select the order and all 32 starting QBs could be drafted as the starting QB for whatever team selected them, how long do you think it would be before Bryce's name was called? Top 10, top 20, bottom 8? Think about it.  For me, having never seen back to back games with franchise QB level performance in 3 years tells me what I need to know. We still need to be looking for our solution at QB.
    • Dude, I'm saying the Cardinals have proven they know nothing. Not saying keeping Bryce is the best choice long term, just saying that we've made the right move for this moment in time.  But man, the Cardinals are never a blueprint for success. Haven't been since they were in Chicago.
