Panthers expected to finish 7-9 according to Sports Illustrated prediction

Literally the laziest and worst prediction possibly they've ever had. Pittsburgh will not reach a Super Bowl. It's just not going to happen. Why wouldn't the Rams be the complete favorite at this point? Whatever, they chose us and the Dolphins in 2006 and that ruined our season.

Having said that, our secondary showed up a little better at the dress rehearsal and addition by subtraction on OL might have helped our cause. We're capable of anywhere from 6 to 13 wins, all depends on who shows up. fug Shula for that Chicago game last year.

The NFC South is certainly the toughest division in football, at the moment. A 3-3 record would be a decent accomplishment, considering.

That means the Panthers have to find wins:

vs Dallas, Cincinnati, NY Giants, Baltimore, Seattle

at Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland

Preseason polls/predictions are a joke. Only about 2 so called experts even picked the Panthers to even make the playoffs (as a wildcard) in the '14/'15 season. Personally, I'm always happy when they underrate us. A lack of respect improves motivation.

Better to be the underdog than favored. Still, I don't get the disrespect... It's like every single prediction I look at we finish 3rd in the NFC South and miss the playoffs. We went 11-5 last year and were 21 yards away from winning a playoff game against the 2nd best team in the NFC. I get the NFC is going to be even more of a bloodbath this year but this team has real talent and infinitely more potential with Shula gone.

Last year they picked us to go 9-7. Same in 2015.  They're just deviating little from their average disrespect of us.

Last year they had the Jags 4-12 and the Rams 6-10 too so..we're not the only ones.  Most of these pick em standings things are about 2 years behind where a team's roster is.

Everyone can screenshot this, but I'm getting a 13-3 vibe from this team. Having a new offensive coordinator will allow Cam to travel back in time to the days where he was unpredictable as a player and where our offense had much less game tape. Norv knows how to utilize our offensive weapons and he has, quite possibly, the same caliber of weapons as he has had at any one time.

Someone posted a graphic a few years ago showing the 3rd preseason game outcome and the season. The last time I saw dominance in the third preseason game like we had Friday was against the Ravens in 2015 when Kuechly absolutely lit the place on fire. Get excited, take the over bets on the win totals, and I'll see you in Charlotte for the NFCCG.

Until we prove we can actually have back to back winning seasons are we truly “overlooked” for getting picked to not have a winning season?

the Cam hate I saw on ESPN last week is too much though, getting picked as the 18th best QB in the league is hilarious

We've never had a coaching change at both coordinator positions after a winning season. That alone will remove the stagnation that occurs.

    • I must apologize, my sarcasm at times doesnt translate well in text form lol. At this point I would welcome us signing him, Trey Lance, trading for Jameis Winston, asking about Deshaun Watson and playing phone tag with Tom Brady before I ever fully entertain a season of Bryce Young being the defacto Starting Quarterback of the Panthers.

    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
