Rivera's Tuesday presser

Recommended Posts

@JourdanRodrigue: G Amini Silatolu is further along in knee rehab than T Daryl Williams, Rivera said. Team has to decide in the coming week whether to start Williams on IR with the option to return in 8 weeks.

@JourdanRodrigue: LB Andre Smith will play as early as the third defensive series on Thursday. Rivera talked very highly of him in training camp but Smith pulled his hamstring as the preseason began and the team has not gotten a good look at him. Thursday a big one for him.

@JourdanRodrigue: Rivera is indicating that LT/RT Moton will play a short amount of time on Thursday (he’s a starter but still finding rhythm in the position), but team wants to be extremely cautious with his reps and will pull him as soon as they see fit.

@DNewtonespn: Taylor Heinicke will start at quarterback for the Panthers in the preseason finale at Pittsburgh. This seems to be a clear indication he is the No. 2 quarterback behind Cam Newton heading into the season. The question is will Carolina keep Garrett...

@josephperson: RR: Greg Olsen rest day.

Da’Norris Searcy out of the protocol.

If you play Moton, you put him in for one play, run opposite side of the field and then you take him out, wrap him in bubble wrap, and bless the knees.

We can't have him hurt too.

Amen. Wish he were sitting.

Not surprising to hear that Amini is further along as Williams had the much more complicated injury. It's not encouraging though to hear that we're still in the decision making process as to whether Williams will be designated to return. That doesn't sound good.

I just hope Ron is over his delusion that Amini is a starter. Amini is a worst case scenario type player. He shouldn't be on an NFL roster. If he's on the field you better have a long list of guys on IR to justify it. Every time Amini is on the field, he's the lowlight of an opposing player's highlight.

And thus, his nickname was born.  Lowlight.

Rivera talking about Silatolu progressing in his rehab makes me nervous

Anyone have contact with Panthers team docs? Can we start a go fund me to encourage them to urge the team to give Amini and Matt LOTS of rehab time?!?  /kidding

With Williams, I believe the decision they are making is whether to keep him on the roster, expecting him back sooner, or designate him to sit out for 8 weeks. IMO, that's at least a little good news that he is making progress.

I hope you're right. Maybe so.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
