Cox  Jr and that obada guy are promising guys at DE. I worry more about DT.

Hahahaha. Yes, let’s worry about DT while we have Short, Poe and a promising 1st rounder in Butler.

Whereas we have an aging (but still great) Peppers, a pretty old Mario, a slightly above average (and older) Horton, a raw international player, and a 5th round pick.

Did Jerry Richardson play the role of GM all the time or only for the screwups?

I asked this a few weeks ago... basically the guys who liked Gettleman refuse to believe that he can make such a huge mistake.  On the flip side, they will refuse to believe Hurney 2.0 can make any good decisions.  The default is to blame the owner, who "forced" the GM into signing the bad player.

Gettleman had to make some hard decisions.  Did a good job in some spots.  Horrible in others.  This Kalil fiasco is his baby.

No clue what if any input JR had with the Kalil fiasco, but seeing that the Oher reclamation project went well I don't find it that hard to believe that Gettleman simply thought that it would go even better with Kalil given that Kalil's has a higher natural talent level and showed elite level NFL play as a rookie. It's not a stretch to think that Gettleman thought that Kalil was going to end up better than Oher in our system and truly be a legit starting NFL LT. It just hasn't worked out that way.

The OL is bad, but how short our memories are.  2014 starting OL, drumroll please...

  • Byron Bell, Amini, Ryan Kalil, Garry Williams, Nate Chandler. One good player. Luckily, Trai was drafted to help that abomination.
  • In 2015, we were about to trot out Nate Chandler and Mike Remmers before signing Oher at OT, who was thought of as damaged goods and better suited for RT.

The OL looks rough, and it is...but we have the offensive talent (and no more Shula) to compensate I think.

I think this is it exactly. Dave struck gold once with a reclamation LT and figured he would be able to do it again, especially with him having more natural ability and his brother being on the team.  A swing and a miss, unfortunately, however.

I don't know why we keep trotting out rookies to start at cornerback with Jackson but we might. Looks like we could do the same at safety with Gaulden. I love their potential but hate the mistakes along the way. I hope we can work them into their roles and start veterans first.  I like Bradberry and Searcy as starters with Jackson rotating in taking speed guys man to man in the slot. I also think Munnerlyn is an asset as a nickel guy and strong tackler. I have liked what I have seen from Adams and think Gaulden will make a good strong safety who will only get better as he gets stronger and understands the defense fully. I am all in this year. I know many of the players are as well. Now if only the injury bug lays off for awhile we might get a few more guys back .
