The point...would be that we kick a FG there (and make it) the game becomes a 2 score game, and is all but won at that point.

Instead, we had to punt, down 7.  We were still heavily favored to win, but it's almost a guarantee if we get that FG.

At the end of the day, it was just a mistake, and didn't really cost us anything....move on to the bye week.

Agreed. Well said.

Dude you're not the only Cam Newton fan on this board, I doubt there is anyone in this thread that does not want Cam Newton to be our starting QB.

You can take Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Ryan, give me Cam...but still the play was boneheaded I'm sure the man himself would say that, and it deserved some criticism good thing it didn't come back to bite us and nullify what was for Cam an otherwise great game.

I haven't argued with the fact that it was indeed a mistake on his part regardless. Please try to keep up if you insist on quoting me.

But there's that, and then there's somehow making a leap from Newton literally on camera placing the ball down, to saying he "threw" the ball at a defender which so far not a soul has offered actual proof of.

8 fuging pages. 8! Can we fuging read the goddamn forum related to our team after a win, without all the fuging dip and mountain dew mouth breathers complaining about Cam. 8 fuging pages going on about a "yeah, but he did do something wrong". 8 pages based on whataboutisms. You people (yeah I said it) feed of of the negativity. Pathetic.

All this “throwing motion” talk, it wasn’t a throwing motion. He was keeping it away from Dunlap. Dunlap swiped, cam jerked it up and away, dunlap swiped, cam jerked it up and away then set it on his lap. That simple. No throwing motion. No aggression. Probably a legit penalty but a stupid one considering the opposing player was swiping at cam to initiate the whole thing but whatever. It’s a learning experience and that’s the end of it.

You aren't that dense.

It would be the fault of the player who pushed the team out of field goal range while only being a 1 score game by getting a dumb flag.

His response implied it would have been Cams fault that our garbage defense gave up a go ahead score

Unsportsmanlike conduct has been a push for the last couple years....throwing or thrusting (see handing) a ball at or to another player is going to draw the flag.

I'm 100% positive that Cam knew as soon as he did it that he was likely to get that flag, I'm guessing that he 100% knew that he shouldn't have done it the moment he did it.

Nevertheless, it's something we see almost weekly out there, and Cam will learn from it.  Dude wants to win, and knows that the flag he got could have changed the outcome.  It didn't, move on.

Solid take.

Steve Smith let his temper get the better of him in games a few times.  He talked about how having to explain to his daughter why he had to leave a game made him rethink what he'd been doing.

I see what you are saying, but the lost couldn’t have been put all on Cam from that mistake. There were plenty others, but I see what you are saying. I agree that Newton did realize it was a mistake, he’s a smart kid.

No loss can (or should) ever be pinned on a single person. Teams win.  Teams lose.

Had we lost, Newton's penalty would have been a contributing factor, but far from the only reason.

Run defense (or lack of it) for example, would have been a pretty significant piece of the puzzle.

Did anyone ever offer explanation on this?

There was no replay and the commentators never questioned the call, it just sent Rich Gannon into a 30 second spiral of Cam bashing.

Cam can't do that BUT you could tell those commentators were just waiting for Cam to fugup so they could blast him.
