You know who isn't getting enough credit? Marty Hurney

I can't really point to any move he's made over the past year that looks that bad. Signed CJ Anderson, Jarius Wright, now Eric Reid. Drafted guys like Donte Jackson and DJ Moore. Has given out fiscally responsible extensions to some key guys. He may have saved the offensive line from turning into a complete disaster. He's been a punching bag on here for literally a decade, but I think we need to actually praise the job he's done post-Gettleman. Maybe Tepper is going to keep him around after all. If you look at this roster from top to bottom, it's hard to argue that there's never been a Panthers roster with so much talent. That might not translate to a Super Bowl berth, but if it doesn't, that's not something you can blame Marty Hurney for.

It would be poetic for Hurney to be the GM if/when Cam and Rivera get that Superbowl trophy.

He could have easily not drafted Cam, and where the fug would we be then.

Winning a Superbowl would be such a great ending to what seems like a season with so many good stories on this team.

3 games in and we are ready to anoint a guy we all hated as great. No thanks, I'll wait to see how the full season plays out with the talent he has brought in.

You said yourself that he's brought in talent. He's brought in fresh, organic groceries. It's up to Chef Rivera to make a Super Bowl out of it now.

I for one am here to eat my crow. So far, Hurney 2.0 has done a great job.

I know we've all been (rightly) beating up on Torrey Smith for his failures on the field, and thus we might want to hold that against Hurney . . . however . . . consider the other end of that deal.  Hurney managed to dump Daryl Worley before he imploded completely.  No, Torrey hasn't been wonderful, but he played at least some part in bringing Eric Reid to us.  It's also fair to question whether he would have gotten as many opportunities had Samuel / Byrd been healthy.

I'm actually becoming a believer in Hurney 2.0 . . . I think it's possible he is figuring it out.

Some men just like to watch the world burn.

I brought this up in another topic, but yeah, Marty has been doing a great job. Not just this year, but last as well. That trading away of Kelvin Benjamin? In hindsight I think we'd all agree that it was definitely for the best. Getting Peppers to come back? Beautiful! Drafting, so far, so good.

The guy is doing for us what he did back in the days of Fox -- putting together a legitimate team. This time, he has more experience and insight. It shows. And I think Marty is still chasing that ring he didn't get thanks to the Patriots back in '03.

Glad to see him back and darned impressed by what he has done so far.

While he's been trying it seems, the results haven't been there. Poe, Smith and Moore haven't earned a paycheck and we went into the season with this secondary situation. Luckily for him, the CB's have stepped up but still haven't seen the longevity. Credit to yesterday or did Tepper bring up about bringing in a safety b/c Ron is blind? We'll never know. Also, Anderson hasn't seen the field much. Yeah, we grabbed Clark AFTER the season started even though both him and Ron were comfortable with Kalil and Amini starting. Sorry, i'm not giving credit yet.

I would have to think that 1M of the 5M we are throwing away on Torrey would have been enough to get Reid here. And that’s assuming Torrey had any impact at all. Wasn’t like his stance wasn’t known for a long time.

Smith doesn’t have the “power” to get anything done to sign someone. Who do you think he is? Ryan Kalil?:shades:

    • Fowler: Bucs 23, Panthers 16. Baker Mayfield only won a single game when he was an unimpressive Carolina starter, but somehow he’s 5-0 when playing AGAINST the Panthers. For the Panthers to pull off this upset, they’ll need to score at least in the mid-20s. With Tampa Bay relatively healthy following a mini-bye (and Mike Evans’ return is huge), it feels like this will be too tough a task. Kaye: Bucs 24, Panthers 20. The win-loss-win-loss streak comes to an end. It’s hard to trust the play-calling following the loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers know what’s on the line, but they also knew last week, too. It’ll be close; I just have trouble trusting a positive outcome after a defeating one on the road. Zietlow: Panthers 38, Bucs 35. This prediction goes against conventional wisdom, but then again, conventional wisdom doesn’t seem to apply to these Panthers. This group, after all, has yet to lose back-to-back contests since Weeks 1 and 2. I think they win this one to make Week 18 interesting — and yes, that’s even with motivated Baker Mayfield and future Hall of Famer Mike Evans in good form. Why not?
    • Sam developed into a different player after he mostly sat for a year and learned a ton by being in that QB room under Shannahan in San Francisco.  Then he went to the Vikings who have a poo load of talent and another genius level offensive mind at HC in Kevin O Connel. I think they genuinely built up his confidence in a way he never did in New York or Charlotte.  He would not have been the same player if he stayed here IMO. Especially if he had been involved in that disaster season with Frank Reich in 2023, that might have cooked his confidence for good.  I guess you could argue we wouldn't have been that bad if we also kept cmc and dj i guess.
    • Willis was impressive last night given the circumstances. GB and SF seem to just have it figured out as far as QB goes.   It's frustrating, but I enjoy seeing our old players find success elsewhere.
