Choosing Inactives for Sunday is going to be tough!

I was just thinking about how hard it's going to be to choose players to make inactive for Sunday.  Here's a look at the INACTIVES for the first 3 weeks of the season.

Of the four guys out with injury, Greg may still be the only question mark.

Samuel will almost certainly play if he's healthy enough.  We miss his speed.

Turner will likely play now that he's back from comcussion protocol.

Byrd - we could use him for returns for sure, but getting a jersey could be tough for 6 WRs.

Among the various healthy scratches:

Obada certainly will be active.

Doss is now on the practice squad, so he no longer counts as a possible inactive.

I'd guess inactives could be:

Greg

Mahon

CAP

Haynes or Cox

Hawkins

A. Smith

But beyond that I'd be hard pressed to choose another guy.  Good problem to have.  But I hate having guys who are healthy who have to be inactive!

I'd rather have the inactive list full of healthy people. It means the best players are on the field instead of being injured

I can't imagine we have 6 active WRs. Byrd probably gets left out in addition to the 6 you mentioned.

In years past, I'd agree with you.  But at some point in the preseason or at the start of the season Norv seemed to talk as if he could envision all 6 being active.

We've been missing Byrd on returns certainly.  Moore looks quite lost returning punts.  So that *could* work in Damiere's favor unless they decide to try Curtis on the returns.

Generally I do think a WR as inactive #7 is likely.  I'm just wanting to see both Samuel and Byrd on the field getting playing time.  But I recognize it's not very likely.

Byrd is definitely by far the best returner that we have.

Very well could be that he does. If he is the only other place we could find an inactive is at DE(both Haynes and Cox are out) or LB(both Smith and Carter are out). Byrd inactive means a hit at PR, DE inactive means we are forced to play Peppers more early in the season and LB inactives means a loss of someone who plays a lot of special teams. Losing some PR ability is likely what the coaches feel is the most palatable sacrifice.

Ideally, Torrey is the 7th inactive but that will never happen.

It wont be the list, but it should be

Olsen

Artis Payne

Andre smith

Haynes

Torrey Smith

Colin jones

Mahon

That said, smith and jones will not be inactive ever, I've given up hope on not having to see them fail.

colin jones is probably the best special teams player we have. yes, he sucks at safety, but dont blame him for sucking at safety when its the dumbass coaches that have been putting him on the field on defense and thinking its acceptable

I hate to say it, but you can't expect Samuel to play the whole game, any week.    Byrd as well.     You kind of need both to offset each other, so both playing.

I keep pimping Samuel as I am excited but we might be putting the cart before the horse with him.  They might take it extra slow with him given it is a heart issue but you never know.   I could still see him being inactive despite getting back into the flow in practice.

I agree with this and would not be upset if this is how it plays out.  I’m sure there will be some snarky comments about his inability to stay healthy and get on the field but it’s worth it for an extra week.

my thought plays into how they handle Luke as well.  Just because someone is medically cleared and practicing doesn't mean this org has always put them back in play.   I know there situations and issues are different but I wouldn't be shocked of Samuel because a regular part of the environment but just doesn't get the green light for a bit to actually play like Luke did that one season.

but my hope is still he takes the field Sunday and picks up where he left off this preseason.
