Redskins Benched Josh Norman In The Second Half

As much as I hate the defensive system we use it’s fascinating seeing so many players look like All Pros with us and then look like scrubs when they leave. Munnerlyn and Mitchell looked like superstars in 2013 and Norman was arguably the best corner in the league in 2015. Today he’s not even Top 10

Norman ain’t coming back until his contract is up or he’s cut.

Kalil’s cap hit jumps up to $12 mil next year and then $15 mil the following year. If you add Norman’s $15 mil hit for the next two years then you would have $30M tied up in two players while trying to replace or resign guys like Davis, Peppers, Kalil, Adams, Funchess, Horton, Love, Williams, Mayo, Byrd, Obada, etc. Next years free agency class will be the largest in quite some time for the Panthers with 27 players set to hit free agency.

Even if we were to use Kalil’s out at the end of the year his dead cap is still $9.8M. Coupling that split dead cap along with Norman’s $15M cap hit would have the Panthers using around 12% of their cap space to make one player go away while overpaying another.

If he was traded then the Redskins would need to take Torrey Smith and Norman would have to agree to a pay cut, a restructure wouldn’t fix anything. If a trade like this did go down then it all but guarantees Kalil being cut as the Panthers couldn’t carry both players at their full cap hit.

Thanks a lot DG

Agreed. All the people wanting Josh Norman are thinking 2015 Norman will just waltz back into the building. 2019 Norman turns 32 during the 2019 season and is 4 years removed from his great season. Also, top 10? According to PFF, he’s not even top 50. On last night’s broadcast they said Dunbar was their top CB so he’s not even the top guy on their team, you know the team that gave up 363 yards and 3 TDs on 29 attempts. 12.5 yards per attempt. That’s about as bad as you can get.

If he wants to come back for vet minimum as depth, sure, but 2015 Josh Norman is long gone.

With the cushion Panthers defense gives we will top that easily lol.

I want him at free safety. Still think he was born to do it.

You know Kalil is getting cut at seasons end right? He had a contract killswitch built in that we can use after this year and owe him nothing.

Michael Thomas had him in his feelings from the first snap.

What I find spectacular about Norman is that he talks as much poo as anyone on the field but as soon as a guy plays that game with him and embraces it, he's upset. Dudes soft.

I disagree, he’s far from soft, don’t get it twisted

He'll be back here soon enough for relatively cheap and will succeed again in our system. Can't wait.

I think that he had to go spend the awkward years of his pro career in Washington. If we can get back the incredibly skilled and talented guy, but one who has matured, we'd win big time in the deal.

If not, it sure would be like getting back together with that batsh!t crazy ex-girlfriend -- a terrible idea no matter what the perks might be in the short term.
