Wasn't signed per say. Traded for a dude who didn't make the eagles roster. Honestly probably was a even deal.

Worley's cap hit is $500K.

Smith's is $5M.

Not even at all.  Not even close.  Unless Rivera/Hurney had been smart enough to cut him.  THEN it would have been even.

5 million isn't anything for a backup WR.

Its way worse than zero for a "backup WR" that can't block and can't catch and "deep threat" that can't beat anyone anymore.

At the time, before acquiring Wright, drafting Moore and the uncertainty of Byrd and Samuel, I can’t say it was that bad. But in hindsight, well he has severely underperformed.

I'd argue that we came out on top because he is at least a positive veteran presence and assisted in shoring up safeties with the Reid signing.

Maybe not worth $5M, but I'd rather have Torrey Smith taking snaps from Samuel/Moore than I would Worley taking snaps from DJax.

When you are trotting out mose Frasier and brentin bersin as starters in a playoff game, Torry Smith for 5 mil is like hitting the lottery

It was a decent idea of a trade by both teams. Both teams traded guys who probably weren't making their rosters anyway. We know Worley didn't work out for the Eagles and we have a pretty good idea that Smith isn't going to work put for us. Now if only our coaching staff would put him in the bench where he belongs. If we want his veteran presence in the locker room for the young WRs, fine. But he shouldn't be taking any snaps away from them on game day.

    • That's a very incorrect statement right off the bat, coaches get fired for winning ugly all the time.  Every coach of a playoff team that then gets fired, got fired because they won ugly and didn't improve their players enough to win in the postseason. Guys like Andy Reid have been fired for "winning ugly" like you said, because they kept winning in spite of the improvement of their players. Also, "this is a fanbase starved for wins" is a statement I also don't agree with, I'm not "starved for wins", I'm "starved for a winning and contending franchise" which are two VERY different things. If the team and fans just want to win some games, then that's a loser mentality, sorry, but it is.  We should want to contend, not win a handful of games.  Every time this comes up I point back to the Lions the last 5 years or so.  They were losing games but improving every week while doing so a few years back.  THAT is how you improve as a franchise and move the needle towards contending, not winning games ugly.
    • Good lord. I don’t think I have ever seen a hole that open.
    • this is true.  But NFL Ss and defenses are actively taking that away and playing to take them away vs most teams.  The problem thus far in BY's career......is they are cheating and not respecting the deep game which makes the smaller/mid range game harder to pull off.  and Dallas is an anomaly game.  using those random games that run counter to vast work......doesn't really change the discussion/issues in Carolina.  Bryce Young took the shots this week because they were not just NFL open but college open.    Wide open dudes downfield that really were coverage busts/issues.
