Cam had a 93.2 passer rating yesterday

Great game wasn't it?  But, forget Brady, that's comparing to the GOAT.

Compare instead to Mahomes - a second year player.  Mahomes just went to Foxboro and hung a 40 spot on Coach Hoodie.  That is some seriously impressive QB play.

Cam played well yesterday against what may be a fairly good defense.  Cam also made some seriously bad decisions in the last two minutes.  These two statements are not mutually exclusive, they can both be true.  And in fact, I think they are both true.

Some of this needs to fall on whomever is relaying the plays in to Cam - whether it's Norv or Scott - whoever.  Someone needs to be in Cam's ear on 3rd down telling him "Hey, we have plenty of clock and plenty of timeouts, get the first down."

To be fair. Mahomes has a great supporting cast and offensive minded geniuses scheming the offense. Give the same tools, Cam could perform at that level or higher.

We have looked above mediocre all year and a 3-2 record backs that up. Cam has no deep ball accuracy. The schedule now gets brutal. The Eagles are beatable much like last year, but there is NO easy game left on the schedule. Everyone is a contender, even Tampa. I don't think we beat another AFC North team including the Browns. We finish with the NFC East next week, and maybe the Lions and Seachickens will be other wins unless something gets cleaned up quick but this team is regressing and the league has us figured out. We are looking 7-9 in the face.

Make no mistake, if Washington had gameplanned an aerial show, they would have torched us.  They milked a lead and weren't aggressive on offense.  They wanted to control the clock, which they did.  The defense performed exactly the way Washington wanted them to.  Poorly.

if they could have they would have..they ran what they are good at

Defense has been terrible this year. We haven't gotten many sacks and while sacks isn't the be all end all of a good defense we also aren't getting consistent pressure like we would in years passed. I haven't looked or seen any of the numbers but I imagine we are in the bottom half of the league in both categories, and being that we run a soft zone defense STILL, we HAVE to have people getting to the quarter back.

What irks me so much about this fickle idiocy is that Cam Newton literally put the offense on his back and got us into the playoffs last year. He even almost beat Brees and the Saints with a bunch of practice squad wide receivers in New Orleans.

Our defense is definitely underperforming.

especially up front. We can't beat legits QBs with no pressure. Brees, Wilson, Wentz, and Rogers will be a big problem if we don't snap out of this. Sadly I think it is what it is. That said, I think it's safe to say the defense now is not what it was. Much is on Eric Washington.

2017 wasn't all that long ago. Here's Cam's stats in Foxboro against Brady. Mahomes QB rating was 110 yesterday, Cam had 130 last year and got the win. Mahomes actually missed several passes early that would have lead to easy Chiefs touchdowns but instead they had to settle for field goals. Anyway, it's fun to compare QBs but ultimately it's pretty dumb seeing as how Mahomes came into a rather stacked team offensively, and plays in a Andy Reid system that relies on putting tons of points on the board.

how stupid are you. Cam has never lost to 'Coach Hoodie'.

Bingo. It all starts with those guys and those guys have looked bad.

Outside of KK and Addison what else did we really have? Why anyone thought we could just not blitz at all when it's been a core concept all along is beyond me. Jacksonville is a perfect example of why defense doesn't win anymore. They have pass rush and coverage yet got lit up by the cowboys.

    • Brian Baldinger on NFL Network (per Tim Weaver on Panthers Wire): "I feel like they're building a monster on that side of the ball right now and I think that's how they have to play," Baldinger stated. "They have to play like they can shut teams down this year. I think it's on them to really guide this team right now." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2026/05/22/panthers-nfl-offseason-defense-brian-baldinger/90215555007/   So, do you believe him? Today, May 25, I do believe Baldy without any evidence otherwise. I think it's much more likely for our defense to take another marked leap (right into the top 10) than our, basically, bottom-third offense. In my mind, Lee Hunter is a literal and figurative huge addition up front, and right behind him is perhaps our biggest exclamation point on defense: Devin Lloyd. Lloyd's experience and track record of solid production should be the anchor of our defense that should help lift the floor of the entire unit. No more getting gashed on runs, eh? But, as important as Lloyd will be, the most prolific addition to the defense could be Jaelen Phillips.  In my opinion, whether or not the Panthers can demonstrably show that the defensive squad, and perhaps the team in general, is actually ready to assert itself as a perennial postseason presence lies within its ability to credibly rush passers. Phillips was paid handsomely to produce results. Now I know that most of you are probably thinking that sacks are the key. Moreover, I'm not one that is even going to tell you that his pressures are the key (you know, since Phillips's pressure rate has been highlighted over perhaps pedestrian sack numbers). The key, at least in my mind, will be the marked growth of Nic Scourton and/or Princely Umanmielen. I really do believe that they are the understated X factors that the "success" of our season may depend upon.  I'm not worried about the interior (perhaps over-optimistically so). I'm also not too concerned with our corners, as they are quietly one of the best duos in the league. Sure, the safety position has more question marks, Trevon Moering is an exclamation point, and Nick Scott, though less of an exclamation point, still has plenty of experience. With the infusion of youth, size, length and energy, I can see a good mix that will result in positives from the DBs once Ejiro Evero figures everything out. And, we should all know, a credible pass rush provides the defensive backfield with opportunities to shine, and this is but another reason why I believe that Scourton and maybe Umanmielen will be key to taking up residence in the postseason. On an off note, and as a reminder, if the defense is doing its job effectively maintaining momentum with field position, if not outright laying down the pathway with short fields and such, this should make it easier for Bryce Young and the offense to effect points on the board in terms of TDs. Where the defense goes, the offense will have every opportunity to follow.
    • Its gonna be loud as hell in Montreal tonight.  But don't make any big turnovers or defensive lapses and I like our chances.
