After watching the Carolina and Detroit game end like it did. I was in awe how we over came Devin Funches off day by dropping a TD, and 3 other catches that would have been first downs. Detroit player stepped out of bounds on a play that should of killed the drive. Cam Newton had 357 Passing yards and 3 TDs.  The defense missed 9 tackles Sunday. Gram Gano was also drinking the same kool-aid as Devin Funches for he cost the team 4 total points. With that being said Ron knew all of this and he decided to no longer be a "coward" and play for overtime. Many of you guys here complain about Ron after every loss and even most wins and you wanted him to have more "balls" as you call it. Well here he is! He wanted to win the game by any means. A Bill B type call. Maybe you rather play for overtime and hope Detroit makes a mistake against your struggling defense.  Overall I like the call I believe we will take care of the Seashawks this Sunday.  The team knows Ron means business. Also Cam I can not blame you for you balled out and misfires happen. However this is what you been screaming for. Live with it and get behind your team. Stop acting like spoiled brats after EVERY single game. RIOT  MF RIOT

This is peak Ron Rivera.

Of course going for it wasn't the right call. Either way Detroit gets the ball back with plenty of time to get in field goal range. If time was about to expire, sure you can make an argument to go for two.

But Rivera is not too smart. Going for two in this situation was strictly a "I don't trust Gano to make an extra point" play. Of course Ron probably didn't see it that way, but that's what it was.

So many things can go wrong in one play with the game on the line. Why risk it? A tipped pass, one missed block, dropped pass, over throw....

The correct decision there is to kick the extra freaking point and play for overtime.

As a coach you hold players accountable. Ron has faced pressure since day one in Carolina. The winning-est coach in franchise history. He finally has the offensive coordinator he wanted. He will get the defensive coordinator he wants next season. I believe his hands were tied on personal decisions and coaches under JR. We will be ok.

The point is ya'll would still cry if he played for overtime and we lost. The only thing going Carolinas way yesterday was the play of Cam Newton and DJ Moore.... Thats about it. It was the right call. Cam just missed the throw.

I don't know what the point of this is because I don't see many people complaining about going for two. People are rightfully pissed at Ron for once again throwing his players and team under the bus and having zero accountability for his own coaching decisions that hold this team back.

He hasn't changed. At least not intentionally. Ron Rivera displayed himself to be the same scared coach he always has been by deciding to punt on the previous offensive drive late in the 4th quarter on 4th and a few yards. Wasted opportunities were self inflicted from the staff as well as some players. That much is certain. What is also certain is that Rivera still can't resist but to stick to his ultra conservative approach to game management until it's too late. The 2 point conversion call was just Ron panicking after his usual play it safe antics backfired yet again.

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
