Saxy Takes: Let's look past the Bucs and Browns

If we lose badly to both Tampa and Cleveland , I want Rivera fired on the spot. The're definitely the worst teams on paper on our entire schedule and we've already lost 3 in a row. Lose two more games we and nobody is going to believe anything coming out of Riveras mouth at that point.

If we lose to the Bucs and Browns I’m thinking Tepper might fire Ron at that point. He would make Norv acting coach and we would proceed to lose the remaining games left.

Firing Ron once the Panthers have been eliminated from playoff contention really doesn't help salvage the season.

Also, an early termination won't speed up the search for a replacement as most candidates are likely employed elsewhere and unavailable until the end of the season.

Not that it wouldn't be justified if the team were to lose to the Bucs and Browns, but  to me, Tepper presents himself as someone who talks softly and carries a big stick.

In other words, as a new owner of an historically mediocre franchise, I would be surprised if Tepper hasn't already started the process of determining what is needed to improve the Panthers long term outlook, to include having his closest associates quietly gathering information on likely candidates for GM and HC.

Ron being canned with a few games left to play doesn't really change the new personnel hiring timeline enough to justify the potential team turmoil and negative press an in season firing is likely to cause.

That is the browns team that went 0-16 last year plus some rookies?   There is no way we are losing to them.   We are a playoff team last year and should/would be this year if not for an inexplicable run of bad kicks/final plays.

We absolutely can lose to the Browns.  They're playing good football right now, especially now that Hue is gone.  After the Saints, they are the hardest team left on our schedule.

Baker Mayfield: "We have people we believe in calling the plays now."

You think the Luke would say this about Washington? Would Peppers?

We just watched a Dallas team that was 6-5 coming in, the same as us, just play lights out to beat the NFC number one team, and most likely the Superbowl winner if it was today,..

Now they are 7-5 which is where we can be if we beat the Bucs,..then 8-5 if we beat the Browns.

Momentum--- the Saints just showed they are not indestructible--- Brees can be pressured into sacks, fumbles and interceptions even.

Again, Heroes or Sheep, its up to the Panthers to win out or not.

Last year means nothing. One of those rookies is a QB and getting that position right (and Mayfield has looked good) can change a team dramatically. It also should be pointed out they've got new/different coaching right now than they did last year. They fired both their head coach and offensive coordinator earlier this year.

Last year means we have a proven roster that went 11-5 against a brutal schedule.   Do teams get bad or good over a course of a couple of games?   I dont believe they do and we still have a much much better team with one or two HOFers on it and therefore more likely to win.
