Is Jadeveon Clowney a realistic target in FA?

Carolina guy, plays a position in which is our weakest on the team. Texans already paying JJ Watt 100 mil who plays the same position as Clowney. Maybe they wont break the bank. Obviously we would have to worry about other teams with more cap space, but this could be the type of splashy move Tepper would make. I think Clowney should be our priority in FA.

Dudes gonna get a big dollar contract.

Very few of those work out ever and I haven't seen enough if him to think he'd be anywhere near worth the contract he'll be getting.

Plus he's still living off the college reputation he had. Never lived up to it.

What type of contract you expect him to get?

At least 12 a year.  The Texans already set his market by executing his 5th year option.  Had they thought they could get him for less, they would have negotiated a contract.

Texans gotta franchise him, for at least one more run, right?  They're having a great year, on the strength of that D.  They would be foolish to not try and work something out.  That being said, I would be all for us taking a shot at locking him up long term.

Meh... has had trouble staying healthy and seems to be playing on raw talent, never struck me as a guy who wants to be great and is willing to put in the work to capitalize on his potential.

Not sure about his work ethic, but he has missed 4 games in the last four seasons.  He got injured the first year, but since then has been better than average.

    • At this point, I think Chubba is the odd man out. I hate that, but I think Dowdle gives us more production and big play ability.  But there is still a lot of football to play.  I think it depends on how much Dowdle will want too.
    • I’ve been anti-trade when it comes to Melo, but the way this season has started, it may be time.  I love his game and he’s a cool dude, but I’m starting to think, if he’s your best player, you’re never going to win anything of significance.  Too many brain farts, too many injuries, and ultimately for as fun and entertaining as he is to watch - his game is indeed a thing of beauty - it just doesn’t translate to wins.  And that’s IF he even plays.  I think it’s time to cash out and maximize the return.  I love Melo, but I think it’s pretty clear what the ceiling is for a team where he is the best player.
    • Every NFL team, college program, hell even HS has numerous "what ifs" that got derailed by injury. It's a brutal sport and half the battle is just getting lucky enough to stay healthy. Doesn't matter how durable you are and how well you take care of your body everyone is one weird hit or awkward twist away from a career derailing injury.
