I disagree.

I'd give The Donald a slight edge actually.  I've actually seen The Donald make plays with the ball in his hand.  On more than one occasion.   Funch is a TE playing WR.  One that is extremely inconsistent with his size.

I’d still give the nod to Funchess. He still has some noob excuse in him age wise where LaFell is clearly defined as an average target.

Funchess is definitely more up and down though.

Lafell 2.0

And truthfully a lot of guys end up being more like LaFell/Funchess than truly elite.   LaFell & Funchess are certainly not the worst WR's this team has drafted over the last 25 years.  And a lot of guys like that can stick around in the league for years as borderline WR2 and below type threats.

Hopefully, though, we have finally found a combo in Moore/Samuel that can stick for a while, and along with Wright and CMC provide an elite receiving corp.

God knows after 25 years we are due for it...

He’s definitely not awful. Just not #1 and sometimes not even #2 material.

ugh the huddle... Funcuess is what he has always been, an OK football player, he's never laid claim to being more. You can blame him for not getting better....

However if you realize he's never really been coached as a reciever, or played with a throwing QB.... Maybe appreciate he takes a demotion like a pro, and says the right things, rare for a receiver until you realize he never really was one. He's a tight end that couldn't gain weight.

Yeah, no one attempted to coach Funchess in Carolina. Ever. Not once. That non-throwing QB has thrown for 3000+ yards every season. Cam and Peyton Manning are the only two QBs who've ever done that in each of their first eight NFL seasons.

Go home Devin, you're drunk.

    • So yes, him having his best game as a pro was a big part, but besides that him doing it while injured, while coming back into the game is a big difference.  Yea he has come back and played in games when injured...but he also in those cases have come back in and stunk up the joint like so many times he has in the past and THAT is what makes it different.
    • I don't think deep in the fan sense matters much, honestly. I still think he needs to be able to consistently place passes well up to 20 yards and that's what is more critical. He did that yesterday - he was basically 7/11 on passes 15-25 yards and that's good enough that it also opens up passes all over the rest of the field. In week 10 he was 1/2 in that range; week 9 2/3 with an int; week 7 he was 0/4.  Anyway we need more of that... He needs to be stressing defenses past the sticks for us to open up the rest of the offense.
    • That depends on the factors involved. Quite a few of the shorter passes that we do throw the "check down" is one of the first 1-2 reads. One could argue that could be because of Bryce but that's really almost impossible for us to know without Dave Canales essentially telling us that directly.
