Where has this defense been all year?

Ron Rivera has always been an elite defensive play-caller.  Nobody who knows football should have doubted that.

IF he returns next year, I hope at the very least he maintains his role as defensive coordinator.  It is the least he could do

Couple things.

Ron took over play calling. You can prepare all you want but if you don’t have the right situational awareness to call the right play your screwed.

Also, wouldn’t surprise me if the players saw the results yesterday and are playing to keep or for Ron. They know if they lose tonight he is 99% gone.

Defense has been pretty damn good since Ron took over from Washington, especially considering how often the offense is giving the other team the ball back

Yup. All things considered, Rivera is a ln excellent DC. But very frustrating to watch the defense play great now when we could have really used this intensity when the season was still alive.

That New Orleans game was a defensive thing of beauty. Ron was matching Payton move for move, very impressive.

I've questioned on this here site his testicular fortitude. Ive got to tip my cap. Aside from getting his timeout in, he coached his ars off.

When Ron had other guys running his defense Sean would be over there grinning tearing up Ron's DC's.

Ron (too late) should have been running his defense and working with the DBs his whole tenure here, his record may have been different, better. Sean Payton does it for his offense. If you're an elite play caller why not be it?

I'd like to see Norvs offense and Ron running his defense. I hear ownership may or may not have inquired into Jim Harbaugh, former Panther QB. Obviously aside from that, or possibly continuing with the younger Turner, I'd like to see Norvs offense and RON calling defense. On paper that should be the best of both worlds.

    • I'm the ultimate beleiver the Panthers going to win every game!!  Been that way since we got team.  Was Redskin fan but when Mr Richardson got team was fan for life!! Got this even befor we got team!!
    • I'm not saying he's a bust from that one game (even though I hated the pick) Kon is a backup SG that comes in and stands in the corner and occupies a defender at worst.  I agree even if Kon is the above the team probably ends up with  Kalkbrenner - starting center that needs to add strength to be most effective but has a good skill set.  McNeeley - high upside shooter with good create ability that plays relentlessly.  Kon - Another high upside shooter with less create ability and less motor.  James - high upside 3&D guy    That's not a bad draft at all considering they already had Ball and Miller who can drive and create.
    • This is the best this kid could come up with? Yikes. At least go after the obvious limbo teams like MIA/PIT/etc.
