Who else is excited about Heinicke?

I can't say I am excited. Moreso just relieved that we aren't trotting out Cam to be set up for failure yet again.

That's probably me too.

I certainly wish him the best, but like they have been through most of this season, my expectations are low.

I think it will be interesting.  I imagine we will see some long balls (wonder if Smith plays more this week?), but for the most part, we will see the short game.  He and CMC are buddies, so it will be interesting to see if they have chemistry.

I am expecting a good showing because they will have to watch preseason tape.

To answer your question directly -- I am!

Smart, well spoken, calm, accomplished, a gamer....hopefully the kid makes the most of his opportunity.

Curt Warner was 28 when he broke into the league and became a Super Bowl winning QB and league MVP...

...dream big Heinicke!

Curt Warner was the third overall pick in the 83 draft. you're thinking of Kurt Warner.

Well he could come in and light it up for 400 yards and 4 TDs Sunday and I don't think it would mean a thing. Can only really compare across a large sample size. We've seen plenty of guys like Kap, Griffin, Foles look like the best QB in the league for a stretch but really just be average or terrible when there's film...

Very true but I will be looking more at routes and communications.

WEAKNESSES

Short with small frame. Below-average arm strength with slow release. Syrupy slow set-up in pocket. Must throw with timing rather than to windows. Struggles to improvise and needs plays to stay on schedule. Short-armed deep balls, leading to interceptions. Production marred by receiving corps with hands of stone. Had four multi-interception games in 2014, including games of four and three. Plays with tunnel vision at times, missing out on open teammates.

DRAFT PROJECTION

Round 7 or priority free agent

BOTTOM LINE

Heinicke has the ball placement and accuracy of an NFL backup when he's protected and dealing, but his small stature combined with his inability to drive the ball and make NFL throws could be hard to overcome once he gets into an NFL camp. Heinicke must play in a timing-based system to have a chance of being on an NFL roster.

He reminds me of this back up qb I had in madden 25 franchise named Bryce st Martin . Small fast qb that was accurate . Bruce st Martin threw for 120 tds in a year and that's what taylor is going to do . He will throw 10 tds and 700 yards vs the falcons and will ship cam for a 2 firsts to the raiders and we draft two beasts and win the Super Bowl and cam nut pickles huggers will still complain about letting go of cam and complain about how bad hurney is and wish gettleman was the gm and how they  miss rivera . When taylor Heineken is on stage chugging beer heinekens like stone cold steve Austin  and holding up the Lombardi . Taylor heniken is the only qb that is better then brady . But our luck would be he's the next brady and we let him walk and he goes to the aints or some team lol

Actually (as evidenced by the facts in the post) I was thinking of Kurt Warner the whole time -- the guy who went undrafted and didn't play in the league until he was 28 and ultimately became a Super Bowl winning QB and league MVP...

...but you are correct in that I inadvertently substituted a "C" in place of a "K" when spelling his name -- good onya mate.

Wouldn't it be something if Tyler Heinike had a similar breakthrough!  GO TYLER!

Actually, (as evidenced by your choosing to spell Kurt Warners name as Curt Warner) I think you had no idea that there was another Curt Warner and just didn't know how to spell his name confusing people who knew that there was in fact a rb with the name Curt Warner who was chosen to the pro bowl like 3 or 4 times and runs an Autism Foundation.

Not really. He's a weak-armed JAG that threw more picks than touchdowns in college. People are really happy for a new "different" quarterback, even if everything about them looks mediocre.

I don't expect much from him, but no need to throw out false stats.  He threw 132 td's in college to 39 picks.  He had a better td to int ratio than Peyton Manning.

    • Just chasing targets is a fools game. Chase averaged 85 yrds and .76 TDs per game his first year and 87.16 yrds, and .75 TD's per game his second year. Statistically the same. NOT an improvement. Puka saw no increase either. Yes, Waddle's went down because he had to share targets with another receiver - just like TMac will have to share targets with Coker next year so you have actually just made my point concerning Coker. Olave saw an increase in targets but Carr replaced Dalton and even with the increase in targets, his production was pretty flat (83 extra yards and 1 more TD for the entire year). And Wilson's number did increase but the Jets replaced the other two receivers and their contribution was significantly down from Davis's and Moore's. Again, nothing in those numbers should lead anyone to believe there will be a big leap for Tmac next year.
    • See my previous post. You're also leaving out that T-Mac was likely hitting a rookie wall, like 95% of rookies do late in their first season, combined with the added attention on him by defenses, which in turn would be why Bryce looked Coker's way down the stretch.  With Coker playing like that to start next year, defenses will have to pay attention to it, which will then also make things easier for T-Mac. All of which is also ignoring that T-Mac will just be a better player next year than he was this year, assuming he works on his game this offseason, which we all know he will be.  If a player who was already your clear cut #1 comes back even better his next season, you're going to make sure you're throwing it his way more often, no matter who else you have. Again, Coker's added targets won't be at the expense of T-Mac's, they will BOTH be taking targets from the rest of the team.  Not to mention, we should be passing it more next year to begin with, seeing as we'll have both of them hopefully ready to go full speed Week 1, which again, will help both their target totals increase. Coker looks like a really good player, but even the most optimistic person can't say he looks like he has #1 potential, he has very solid to maybe even high end #2 potential.  You're not taking targets away from the reigning OROY who looks like a true Top 15 WR already to get your #2 targets, you increase both of them by taking from the others.
