We already know Ryan and Thomas are gone.  Pep and Mike Adams probably too.  Reid will probably want too much money.  Writings on the wall with Funchess.

Daryl Williams is the biggest concern.  Mayo is our backup MLB, we'll need him back.  Kyle Love needs to be back.

Outside of that, I'm not in love with anybody.   But we have a lot of holes to fill for depth.

We need to move on from CAP. The guy only has 37 carries in the past two seasons combined. The stated reasoning for cutting CJ was to give CAP more opportunities. He carried the ball 19 times for 69 yards all season.

I'll never understand our reason for cutting CJ, but either way, we need to move on from CAP.

Here's who I'd take, or at least offer contracts to:

Thomas Davis. I know, he's gone, but man, if we could, I think we need him back for one more season to help get that defense back together.

Eric Reid: He played really well, not great, but better than we've had in quite a while. Middle of the group starting safety money, but not top end. Tries to hard to make the big hit when he should sometimes be making the tackle. Really gets in there on running defense and that means something.

Wes Horton: Great rotational guy, reminds me of Al Wallace back in the day in how he plays and his role on the team. Good team guy, great against running attacks.

Colin Jones: Hear me out. This is the Carl Hankton role, mid to iffy coverage guy but a special teams ace and captain. Chase Blackburn put together a good unit and Colin is important to it. If he'll take vet minimum, keep him here as long as you can.

Kyle Love: The only DT we had that worked hard last season. He could certainly get some offers out there, but he was more important to us than Poe and Butler, and sometimes more than Short.

Chris Clark: For a guy that came literally off of the couch and into a starting LT role last year, we could have had a lot worse (and we have and paid big bucks for it). If we can't find a good guy, at least we've got a fair one here. Good depth if we do find a better tackle.

Ben Jacobs and David Mayo: Good back ups on the LB squad, also contribute to ST. Keeping both may be difficult and we might get poached by teams desperate for well-trained LBs.

Kenjon Barner/Travaris Cadet: I'd give them both an invite to training camp and let them battle it out for RB3 and kick return duties. Only room for one of them, though.

Daryl Williams: Man, if this isn't one of our biggest question marks. If the doctors say he is good, offer him a good contract. If there's any doubt, see what the market will give him. Wish we knew more.

Taylor Heinicke/Garrett Gilbert: Two good young men who should be back in training camp for us. Gilbert really shined in his action with us. Heinicke showed good skills and reads, plus the kid is tough as nails and played his heart out with an injured elbow that kept getting targeted by Sean Payton's goons.

Damien Parms: We need some safeties and special teamers. Give him a bit more time.

Hate to say it, but money spent on Pep is money to get people into seats in the stadium, he's just not able to play at starter level, maybe not even at rotational player level. Get him a statue, though. A big one.

I'm pretty sure letting Williams test the market isn't up to the Panthers. He's already made that decision for himself to test the market. It's probably a smart call. The NFL is OT poor right now and even coming off of a knee injury, someone is probably going to back up the Brinks truck for him. I think it's 50/50 at best that we bring home back, I just hope we don't end up making a huge mistake on this one. Ultimately, we have to listen tk the medical team. If they say hes good, pay the man. If they have serious concerns, you gotta let him walk. I just wish I had more confidence in our medical team.

I may be 100% wrong on this one, but man I swear he didn't seem that good when I watched him....accolades and all.

Just don't trust Hurney with long term contracts, especially with a big man coming off an injury.

He was very solid. Not spectacular, bit solid and reliable. That's a spectacular improvement over what we've been fielding at OT for the entirety of Cam's career. A OT duo of Moton at LT and Williams at RT would easily be our best OT duo since Gross and a healthy Otah, but then again that's honestly not saying much consider what we've been putting on the field since Gross retired.

    • So true...look back at 2015 when we won 15 during the regular season and like half of those went down to the wire
    • Sounds like you’re just caping because I have already stated my intent when I posted.  Was it hyperbolic?  Sure.  But that’s what’s fun about this board.  I don’t need validation. I’ve been posting what I think, good or bad, for years.  In my everyday life, I speak my truth and stand on that.  I don’t care about validation, affirmation, or popularity.  I enjoy the discussion, good or bad. If you re-read, I didn’t say I’ve never seen a QB get stepped on.  I said I’ve never seen one, to the best of my memory, have that happen in that fashion on a 4th down and then lay there like the MedAlert lady.  And I said I brought up that play because again, how often do you see other QBs have that happen?  How often do you see QBs who are “super processors” decide to throw a ball out the back of an end zone on 4th and goal to go?  How often do you see them get squared up with a defender and fumble before even getting hit like a scared child?  He does poo that other QBs NEVER do.  Some have, but they don’t stick around for long.  The good ones NEVER do this poo.  And that’s the problem.  And again, yes, Zavala is a fuging chode and played his part in that play…  but I go back to Bryce and his limitations and this being an ongoing issue.  It’s like if it’s not him fuging up, someone will because Bryce is out there.
    • Amazing what happens when the starting qb goes out.
