mccaffrey would have to be incredible to overcome the limited positional value of running backs and to justify the 8th pick. of course drafting a good running back beats drafting a bad tackle or w/e but it's going to be hard for him to ever live up that investment. not his fault of course but some people are too invested in proving a point that just isn't there.

He had over 2,000 yards. If they had let him play he would have broke 1,000/1,000. That’s incredible. How many other people have done either of those two things?

CMC was very good last year but nothing you posted was true.

but why didn’t we trade picks to jump for Fournette,.. a generational back?

the same will be said this year when we draft an OT or CB or someone,.. people will lose it over us skipping or not jumping up for some player that is the gem,..

thats why I just say lay out who you want, throw it out there, and people should just respond with what they want.

in the end, no one really knows—even people who get paid the big bucks— I mean they drafted Jamarcus Russell number 1 for Gods sake,.. and they get paid to get it right.

9 running backs caught 50+ passes with 500+ YAC. mccaffrey is dead center in YAC per reception. 2 of the other running backs on the list were selected higher than mccaffrey. there appear to be 2 distinct tiers here:

tier 1:
gordon - 10.74 - 1st round, pick 15
connor - 9.96 - 3rd round, pick 105
gurley - 9.95 - 1st round, pick 10
barkley - 8.44 - 1st round, pick 2

tier 2:
mccaffrey - 7.95 - 1st round, pick 8
kamara - 7.93 - 3rd round, pick 67
white - 7.64 - 4th round, pick 130
elliott - 7.48 - 1st round, pick 4
cohen - 7.32 - 4th round, pick 119

YAC without context is pretty meaningless. receivers who catch the majority of their passes at or behind the LOS should have high YAC. the only players that matter on the list in that tweet are the tight ends and juju. mccaffrey would have to be incredible to overcome the limited positional value of running backs and to justify the 8th pick. of course drafting a good running back beats drafting a bad tackle or w/e but it's going to be hard for him to ever live up that investment. not his fault of course but some people are too invested in proving a point that just isn't there.

I think it's yards after contact not catch

Leveon lost himself a lot of money this year. The $14m in franchise tag money looks awfully good considering what his backup did

Side note

Dam

I wanted Kittle so dam bad coming out.

As talented a pass catcher he is.  He was the best blocking TE ive ever seen come out.

Would trust him blocking at LT over Matt Kalil

We gave up picks 98 and 115 to move up to 77 to grab Hall.

Kittle went at 146.  Our next pick was 152, which we used on Corn.

Maybe two dimes are better than one quarter :)

Here is something I wrote at the time to the response to someone saying we navigated that draft flawlessly:

Flawlessly? maybe if we would have got a TE and/or a Safety.

Based on our visit list I think we were interested in both, especially TE.  We drafted one last year, a lot of discussion about how we were close to drafting Henry, there was talk about Shula really wanted one, and we have added several to the roster the past few years.

Moving up for Hall ruined our chances at Butt, Kittle, or Leggett, if we were interested in them

Not even just Lawson.

Instead of Hall at 77 we could have had at 98:

Trey Hendrickson drafted at103

Carl Lawson drafted at 116

Deatrich Wise drafted at 131

and then at 115 choices of TEs:

Michael Roberts drafted at 127

Jake Butt drafted at 145

George Kittle drafted a146

Leggett drafted at 150

We could have traded down 15 spots with both our 3rd round pick and fourth round pick and still had

at 113 Lawson or Wise

at 130 Butt, Kittle, or Leggett

Those two trades downs would have get you about 75 points of draft capital which is equal to a early 4th.  That capital could have been used for a safety or maybe move up in the 7th and pick Zane Gonzalez.

Either way I think moving up for Hall was actually a pivotal point in the draft.  I guess in a few years we will find out if it was worth it.

    • I made it about 5 minutes, dude seems pretty insufferable.  But if you watch him through, even with a clean pocket his mechanics and footwork seem different on almost every throw.  Some he has a wide footbase and doesnt plant his foot, others he does the hop throw.  That has to get cleaned up for any consistency
