Not trying to bash the riot

But they were among the ones leading the "cut in post June 1 train" prior to that article

It is the right time and makes zero sense not cutting him post June 1 and opening that 7 mil in cap.  Especially when we are crunched in Cap space and trying to resign the starting RT who is actually a good OT.

They were leading the charge but not this particular contributor.  He might be the only one for the website that spends time reviewing the All-22 and basically anyone who has agrees with him (he still thinks the team will cut Kalil anyway).

To distract myself from the Kalil news.

Let the speculation begin!

108. New York Giants: QB Kyle Lauletta, Richmond
171. Dallas Cowboys: QB Mike White, Western Kentucky
199. Tennessee Titans: QB Luke Falk, Washington St.
203. Jacksonville Jaguars: QB Tanner Lee, Nebraska
219. New England Patriots: QB Danny Etling, LSU
220. Seattle Seahawks: QB Alex McGough, Florida International
Next Panthers pick was 234.
249. Cincinnati Bengals: QB Logan Woodside, Toledo

I'm going to assume 'late' means Round 4 or later. After Lauletta went, the next Panthers pick was 136. Panthers picked 161 ten spots before White was seleted by Dallas, and then didn't pick again until 234. Most likely Round 6 or 7. The closest QB picked to our pick would have been McGoguh. We didn't have a pick after Woodside, so it's not likely him.

Im liking Jordan Ta'amu from Ole Miss in the 4th-5th, reminds me a lot of Dak Prescott coming out

Bash away. It’s wrong. It says $14.7m is guaranteed and that’s BS. It’s already been paid out, just not accounted for in the cap due to bonus proration. Kalil is not owed another cent.

I'm not understanding what you're saying here. You think they can cut Kalil and walk away not paying anything else?

Cut Kalil in 2019:

2019 cap: $4.9m (dead)

2020 cap: $9.8 (dead)

this is the $14.7M he's referencing that they will still owe him. Not sure how you think that won't have to be paid.

There’s a lot wrong in that article. Kalil is not due $14m+. He’s due nothing else. We made his cap hits in the first year total $10m even though he received more money. That is dead cap, i.e. stuff we pushed out with bonuses. Acting like keeping him is more palatable somehow is disingenuous and misleading. Real numbers:

Keep Kalil and cut in 2020 (post June 1st):

2019 cap: $12.5m ($7m+ new cap and $4.9m dead)

2020 cap $9.8 (dead)

Cut Kalil in 2019:

2019 cap: $4.9m (dead)

2020 cap: $9.8 (dead)

That’s the real story. Is Kalil worth another $7m+ to be on the roster for 2019? My answer is no.

Nailed it. Saved me the typing.

Note that we do have a ticking clock. If we don’t release Kalil before 3/15, his 2019 salary becomes guaranteed and Kalil is becoming Marty’s fault as much as Dave’s.

Free agency kicks off on March 13th. Hopefully we ink Daryl Williams or some other FA OT and kick Kalil to the curb all in one fell swoop.

Doesn't sound like we should get our hopes up on Kalil (unfortunately, a lot of us already did).

Doesn't sound like fans of free agent safeties or Colin Kaepernick should get their hopes up either.

Rivera repeating again how we need to find a runningback to split time with McCaffrey just makes me want to pound my head against the wall.

He anticipates Kalil being a part of the plan? What the actual fug!

Or he could just say hey everyone we are cutting Matt Kalil and we want to make sure you all know we are definitely targeting an OT in the draft, most likely first round.

Nothing but coach speak   I’m not saying kalil will be gone or he will stay but I don’t think Rivera is gonna lay everything out there for the world to see either

Possible, though Rivera's never been that good at coachspeak or smokescreens.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
