Soooooo......

I tend to subscribe to the big men from big schools mode of thinking, but this is a good argument.  I think it just boils down to you're more likely to miss when you draft linemen from smaller schools.  Not to say it's impossible to hit though, your above examples are evidence of that.

Just for a quick check, I looked at the 2019 Pro Bowl roster.

OL from P5 schools and Notre Dame: 17

OL from other schools: 6

I guess that does check out pretty well.

That’s actually a bit more than I’d expect. You have to assume that the best high school prospects go to P5 and Norte Dame so they fact that 25% of the pro-bowlers come from outside that says good things about the top guys from the smaller schools. How many combine OL were from P5 and ND? If it’s more than 75% then  it would seem you have a better hit rate on outside of that.

Anyway, it’s pretty much a get the right guy at the end of the day. Moton is one of the top of not the top tackle from the 2017 class and he was the 5th tackle taken in a weak tackle class.

Well, bigger schools get the better talent and better talent usually has higher odds of being NFL players. Those stats are probably going to hold up pretty well across the board at just about every position. But, smaller schools get and develop some good talent, as well. You can't discount the smaller school guys but the value of being at a football factory school is evident every NFL draft.

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
