Player reactions to the PI replay change

I potentially hate the rule, but I'll wait to see how it plays out in terms of enforcement.

I don't know the exact rules that govern this rule, ie on replay if contact occurs within 1/5 of a second on slowmo replay then no overturn. Or if OPI only if the receiver has the arm fully extended, but if the elbow has bend then no overturn.

As I typed that out I'm reminded how officials can't even tell what a catch is, but I'll let them iron it out in preseason and get it right as the season goes on.

So all signs point to me hating this rule as much as I hate Alejandro Lastra, but I don't know enough about how they'll enforce the overturn policy to rabble rabble yet.

I mean, if there’s PI on a Hail Mary play then I’m glad it’ll get called. I’m glad for the new rule. I want more accountability for the refs. I hate this attitude of a “human element” to rule enforcement. I may not agree with all rules (what’s a catch for the past 8 years or so) but as long as everyone is held to the same standard I’m ok with it for the most part.  Everyone has not been held to the same standard though.  I think the best thing the league could do is take on-field refs out of it as much as possible.

For the tin foil crowd, it’s been an easy excuse to just say “the refs are human, they mess up” whenever something controversial on the field happens. More oversight can only reduce the viability of that excuse.

I think this change opens the floodgates for what is reviewed. Why stop at PI, might as well review offensive holding, false starts, delay of games, and all the other penalties that can happen in the last 2 minutes of games....

Games are borderline unwatchable as it is, now games are going to take an extra 30 minutes to finish...

What's more maddening to me is the blatant offensive holding that goes on 40% of the plays.  They never call them, because the NFL wants high scoring games, and the defense is so handcuffed, they shouldn't even take the field.

This is just as stupid. Refs miss calls constantly.  Why stop at no call pi penalties??
