Who is the best UDFA in Panthers history?

I think a UDFA means, wasn't drafted and then we picked him up.

Mills was a UDFA only to the Browns.  Jake to the Saints.

Mills was just a FA signing for us.  Same with Jake.   We were signing professional football players w/ a track record in the league.

Yeah that is true. The point was the OP didn't clarify which the point of my post.

Hoover is underrated according to whom? He is far and away one of the more popular players from the early years and one that is constantly mentioned when discussing iconic Panther's players

And Norwell will not be.  Good point.

Matt Moore is another name to add. (depends on the requirements) He's had a long career.

Jordan Carstens aka the pig farmer was good for a couple of seasons

Nate Newton was here for a cup of coffee.

Mike Tolbert was good for a few.

Cj anderson that didn't get used was a one.

Wes Horton gave this team 6 years at a bargain salary.

Tyler Larsen is a good backup.

Norewell gets my vote, hope he comes back.

Wes Horton? Bargain? I believe he is valued correctly and paid according to the value he adds to the team. Is he great? Not even close. But he's serviceable and he's paid as such.

He was paid at a minimum salary and for a good part played around 40% snaps(along with starting). Some minimum guys never get a gameday jersey and never last over 2 two years. If you get snaps, starts, with multiple years that's a valuable asset.

technically not a UDFA.  Played w/ the Saints first.

UDFA implies I think you were draft eligible and not one drafted you, then a team picked you up.   Jake was a UDFA just not by us.  He signed him w/ a professional career under his belt.

If they had to be UDFA rookies with us then I might would put Hoover or Philly Brown.

yes out there I said Phili Brown,.. not because of longevity with us... it’s because he’s one of the few that didn’t spazzzzzzzzz out in the Super Bowl and made it a close game. That gets at least 4 years worth of brownies for me!

    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
    • It was always a matter of time with Cam’s playing style and a shorter shelf life than passers that protect themselves. I suppose Cam could have still been playing in 2028 ten years after the hit took place, but he would need to have evolved as a quarterback and become more of a passer than the dual threat maestro he was. It’s sad because it makes us think of what could have been, but I do feel it was always a matter of time until all the hits took their toll.
