Reading tea leaves mock

Now I know we probably wont meet with every prospect we draft.  But looking at the meetings (thanks to @Black&BlueBubba for keeping up with this player meeting)

here is what im thinking

1st: Edge rusher.  Sweat or Burns- I honestly think we will be willing to trade away a 3rd if need be.  There are only 3 OTs who consensus says will go in the top 15, and we have only met with 1 of them.  I think Dillard is a backup plan if we cant get one of these 2 edge rushers.  Everything our staff has said about the defense and the direction they are going spells these 2.

They like the versatility of both of these guys. At the combine the staff was going over film pretty heavily with Sweat

2nd: FS- this is a Strong Safety class.  Also the way the leagues works (you use FA to help set up the draft), this Strong FA crop combined with this overall draft class is going to push them down.  1-2 Tops Safeties will go round 1, with a possibility of 1 more going before our pick.  I think Gardner Johnson will be the first one off the board like you see many of these writers put in their latest mocks.

We have met we with Adderley, Thorhill, Savage, Rapp, and Abrahm.  All guys who have been mentioned boarderline 1st round guys.

Adderley, Thornhill, or Savage will be the pick.  All 3 will not be gone by the time we go up for our 2nd pick

3rd: OT- while we haven't met with most of the top OTs projected round 1 guys.  We have been busy meeting with guys who most project to be around our 3rd pick.

McGary, Tytus Howard, Bobby Evans.  I think Tytus Howard is the pick out of the 3 here

3rd comp /4th: CB- as mentioned above I think we could use a 3rd to move up in the 1st.  Hurney has been burning the trails hitting up prodays of CBs, big Boundary CBs to be specific.  He has gone to visit those guys.  The Rock Ya Sins, Justin Laynes, JoeJuan Williams's, Lonnie Johnson's etc

Out of those guys, I think Lonnie Johnson will be our guy

5th: Clayton Thorson- they have a thing for Grier.  But dont see him falling to our 3rd pick.  Another guy they seem to have strong interest is Thorson.  Even using one of their top 30 private workouts on him

6th: RB- Rivera mentioned depth at this position in this class. Dont think they come away empty handed.

If Burns, Sweat, Williams or Dillard are all gone, could we trade back? It doesn’t sound like too bad of an idea and then that would give us a good shot to get Savage in the second.

It's possible all 4 could be gone but very unlikely. You have to think that at least 3 QB's will be taken in top 10-15 picks.

Remember too

There is a Lot of smoke of a few teams potentially moving up for a QB.

Also a Ton of smoke from teams potentially willing to move down.

I Really think we could move up for a Edge rusher if we feel those 2 could potentially be gone

All of that makes sense.  I imagine that there are other guys like Ferrell in the first or Bryant in the late third/early 4th. Both from Clemson on a very disruptive line. And what about Sweat and Burns gone but Devin White still there. Would we consider an inside linebacker and let Shaq go along with his 9 million salary? He would be a dynamic young Thomas Davis. White and Kuechly would give us the most athletic linebacker duo.in the league. I know it is a pipe dream, we aren't going to replace Shaq but we should. And  we can still get a great edge rusher later in the draft. White would be a dominant green dog blitzer which is huge in the 3/4.

White is going to go High.  And im not sure if we have even spoke to him.  With the 3-4 your going to use 2 traditional LBs.  Luke and Shaq also we just drafted 2 last year late that we are high on.

Ferrell im not believing the strong interest here.  Think the only link here is because he's local.

Remember at the combine.  He mentioned that the panthers hadnt spoke to him yet.  While rumors that the Sweat's were sitting with the staff going over film.

The staff has been rumored to really like the other 2 guys versatility.  While Ferrell there are concerns there

Try this for tea leaves,..

says we take Metcalf, meanwhile Getts takes Sweat and Ferrell,.. we skip on Ferrell and Jonah for Metcalf,..

now that would be the smokescreen

Haha that would be.

But even if we needed WRs.  Metcalf doesn't really fit what Norv and Hurney want in their WRs.  They like the quicker guys more than the big long striders

    • Facts it's still crazy that they made him sell over that especially considering what some of the other owners have done.  JR was a rich 80 year old white man from the south I'm not at all surprised about him making some "inappropriate" comments about what a woman is wearing water is wet what a surprise. That's just the way things were done during his time, and he should and did get punished for his actions by paying some hefty fines, but it definitely wasn't something that he should've been forced to sell his team over.  I'll never forget him insulting Peyton Manning during a negotiation, reportedly belittling the quarterback’s knowledge of player safety and asking, “Do I need to help you read a revenue chart, son?
    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
