For those on the DT Train at 16...

Just some food for thought on this idea of taking a DT (Wilkins/Lawrence) etc.

Per -- https://panthergf.wordpress.com/2019/01/19/2019-draft-prospect-visit-workout-meeting-list/

The only ''private'' work outs we've had at the position are:

Dre'Mont Jones & Khalen Saunders

Meanwhile at...

Edge - Sweat / Burns

T - Dillard / Taylor / Ford / Little / Williams

Have all had private workouts, also factor in -- http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001027883/article/teams-believe-montez-sweats-heart-condition-misdiagnosed -- and I think the odds at 16 lean more towards the players at ''Edge & OL'' vs an interior DL with the ability to play 34 End. People need to remember we're ''not switching'' to a 34. We're adding more looks from the Odd fronts to pair with our Even fronts.

We may have met with him as "local" visit, and it may not have been reported.

That is what I was thinking--besides, they know what he can do--his tape demonstrates his versatility--they are likely to become enamored with his character--he is a class act--by spending time with him.  Who knows, but  that is my "pro Wilkins" theory.

And playing hybrids makes the need for versatile DT/DEs a necessity.

What is our 3 man front right now? Who is our SDE in 4-3? How many if any of our current players at DT/DE will be here next year?

Don’t know if they will, but there are numerous reasons for a player like Wilkins who can fill multiple holes.

I could be mistaken, but I think we had numerous 1st round picks under Hurney where we did not meet with that guy, at least not that was publicly known.

That is fair, HOWEVER it ''seems'' as though Hurney 2.0 is proving to be more diligent and intentional in his dealings, remember all the attention DJ Moore received...

If you look at the 2018 list -- https://panthergf.wordpress.com/2018/01/18/2018-draft-prospect-visit-workout-meeting-list/

We met with a TON of receivers, however only -- Moore / Ridlley / Kirk / Miller got ''PRI'' workouts

Of all the Corners that we met with -- Duke Dawson / Mike Hughes / Donte Jackson got PRI'' workouts

So all I'm saying is we might have a ''new Marty trend'' for at least the early picks, when you look at three of our latter round selections...

Gaulden (Pro Day and I believe a connection a coacj on our staff that worked with him in college, Rodriguez I think), & Thomas (Senior Bowl) did not participate in private work outs. We were at Jermaine Carter's Pro-Day

Note* PRI for Ronnie Harrison who I think was still available when we selected Gaulden, so did that coach beat the table for him, or was there something we didn't like on Harriosn's visit

So as I pour over the information and try to inform my own educated / informed to the best of what's available opinion I have a hard time thinking we are considering DT early, based on a potential trend shared with our two high selections last year.

Just some food for thought.

Don't we typically meet with guys we have ?'s on and not guys we are certain about?

    • For a 3rd year QB? That flies with the Teppers and makes the HC and GM look like fools.  Their fear is evident. Their careers are tied to making it work, it's ehy they signed on here and they are professionals who knows what kind of a situation they could potentially have on their hands if they are not calculating about popping up Bryce. I call BS to that sir. It's why every QB after Bryce couldn't make any other rosters past a PS spot...at best
    • Not just Dalton.   But the only real young arm they would let be seen the past 2 years was a really a bad Jack Plummer.  Who was super weak even for that tier  Can’t convince me how weak they made the atmosphere around Young hasn’t been intentional.
    • Things of note: mentions he has six drops. Six. For all the people that don’t know what a drop is, he has six. That’s a long distance from the league leader at ten. (To be fair, pro football reference has him at seven, still not bad.  Plenty of others is that same range.  His drop % is 6.3, which is low.) Catchable ball success ratio: 83% which is great. Catchable being the key word.  Mentions his contested catch rate is low at 5/18 but that’ll get better I think when he can rely on muscle memory for routes, catches, etc and the game slows down for him
