Grier was a Turner decision

There were Pats fans suggesting Hoyer, Jimmy G, Cassell, etc. over Brady at times. Fans can be really stupid when things aren’t going so well.

I'm.pretty sure the saying that the backup QB is the most popular guy on the team originated before Cam Newton was drafted.

I’m ok with Grier from a prospect perspective. But I like many others can’t get behind spending a 3rd round pick on a backup who if things go according to plan won’t play.. like ever. 3rd round for example starters are still getting picked..Butler the first pick by the cards in Arizona is expect to contribute day 1. Some of you wanted Grier In the second lol.I'm not sure if that’s homer bias or what..

Good lord the logic behind this is madding when we still have holes across the board, Saftey, obviously and I’m not convinced nickel is in good shape. Grier is ok as a player but he is not 3-4 rounds better than Tyree Jackson who went undrafted and Stidham who went to the Pats in the 5th. I would have happily took Jackson undrafted over a 3 rounder who should see nothing but developmental time. Let’s not forget Kyle Allen showed enough to be considered as well.

Between Allen and say Jackson no one can tell me the better value was taking Grier and spending a 3 on him when the value of those to are probably equal to or greater than that of grier. Ask me if I would rather have those 2 and a starting saftey ummm Amani hooker off the top of my head and the answer is easy.

What does the size of the market have to do with anything?

What does the size of the market have to do with anything?

Charlotte has 2.85 residents for 1 resident in Pittsburgh.

This "small market" mantra is just a lame excuse.

Market in NFL terms, to me, is not about population. It’s about the market. If you have a million people in one city but only 25% like ice cream but half a million in another city with 75% liking ice cream the bigger MARKET is the city with less people.

The solution? Make better ice cream. Establish a history of doing so. Build a bigger market.

Super Bowls and success build the market, not the population.

There are always anomaly’s but generally speaking that’s how it works. It’s why 90% of Dallas fans have never stepped one foot in the state of Texas. It’s why there are Seahawk and 49er fans on the east coast.

so you’re 100% correct. Small market is an excuse for fans whining about prime time games, coverage, lack of support and attentions. According to them, their small market can’t be helped. In reality those things, and the market, are the way they are because the team isn’t relevant consistently.

You realize that's a very real possibility, right?

And Newton is only under contract for two more years. It's not guaranteed we re-sign him.

If we’re hoping on Willie to carry us we’re doomed. This team has always been Cam or bust.

Late to the conversation, but Norwell's departure gave us this gift.

Why is Grier such a great pick, you ask?  Here is why:

1. He is very smart.  Being in Cam's ear at practice will be to his benefit, eventually.  They want to make one another better.

2. His skill set probably fits this offense better than Cam's.  Cam's athleticism and other variables more than make up for it, but Grier is going to be smart with the football and keep it in the hands that can help you win.

3. Who knows about Cam's shoulder.  Since accuracy has always been an issue, will 95% recovery (if that is what it is) be enough?

4. In contract negotiations, you want a Plan B.  Cam will demand $36m or more. If we have a capable, future starting QB who fits our offensive scheme better, do you pay that for Cam?  Nothing personal--its business.  The $32m difference in salary would cover Luke's contract and about 4 more.  You have to consider it, especially if Cam is no longer able to run effectively.

So Grier may not be the answer, if the answer is "no."  Glad to have him. He gives us a capable and knowledgeable backup and an option.

Hi Ace--have not seen you much on here lately.  This team has always been Cam or Bust---but look at the weapons we have always had---nothing like what we have now.  We needed Cam to run the ball.  Now we have a great RB and some elusive, playmaking WRs.  Will is no Cam Newton, but in this offense, he might have a chance to succeed where if he had to carry the team like Cam has always done, he would fail.

Grier May have been the Turner choice,.. but Dave Tepper is the man who directed to draft a backup quarterback. He said that in the interview.

his observation period is over and his gloves are off,

Winter is coming,... ha

Been busy with Work/Life. I lurk a lot lately, but just don’t have the time anymore.

What I get from this is you’re saying that we just need a game manager?

Man worst thing to happen to cam was getting drafted by this team. Now we know why luck stayed in school. Half the fan base was calling for Derek Anderson to start over him. Never acquired any serious receiving or OL help. Now we spend a 3rd on a backup qb? Meanwhile the colts do everything possible for luck to succeed

Are you even a Panther fan?

Based upon this quoted post, I'd say no.

You can be a panther fan and be objective. I don’t think this team has maximized the talents of Cam. It’s not coincidence that the Panthers are the only team Cam has played on that hasn’t won a championship with him on it. I think we’re all hoping that changes, but it certainly hasn’t been his fault.

The fact that he had Shula for so long and continues to have Ron (who has mastered the art of keeping your job without being good at) speaks volumes. Hasn’t had a LT since Gross was forced into retirement and still hasn’t had a legitimate #1 WR.
