Will the Panthers miss Munnerlyn?

I'm thinking Cockrell and Bradberry on the outside, DJ at nickel.  That would make the most sense assuming Cockrell is back to speed.

I've thought of this too, but I tend to get people saying that DJ should stay on the outside.  With all the tall WRs in our division, physicality and height means something. Speed being his best attribute, DJ should get the slot guy who, especially on 3rd down, tends to be the opponents quickest, most nimble and shifty guy.

Hopefully we wise up and stop thinking about slot corner vs outside corner and start thinking about matchups.  How do our corners best match up to the personnel that the opposing offense puts on the field, that's how we should play.  Why put DJax on a big, physical receiver when you have Bradberry for example.  I think we have some decent corners on our roster, if we just line them up in favorable matchups, we should do well.

How can someone be missed when they weren't there to begin with?  I mean physically he was here on the team, but was less effective than a speed bump on game days.

So basically he was on the same level as Matt Kalil, someone else we will never ever miss

I have thought Jackson would be best  in the slot but current wisdom appears we need him on the outside. So if he isn't the slot guy then my money is on Elliot. He was a slot guy for Tampa and has the speed and ability to play. He made their squad after only one year of college playing experience so while he was raw, he has developed into a pretty decent player.

Considering this will often times be a 3-3-5 defense, the slot corner battle is a big one.

Cap’n was done. Time to move on.

I think we will see a traditional Nickel front primarily, not to say there won't be any 33 looks, but 4 down, and will maybe show some more two point stances outside on the edges.

Overall I think we'd get the best rush with KK / GMC inside, while guys like Addison / Burns / Irvin / Miller / Obabda rotate as the nickel defensive ends. I think the 3-4 base is to help disguise the base pressure / play base with a Safety over the slot and still be able to play the run / disguise pressure.

Gonna be a lot of Cov 3 & Single high man in our future I believe.

To answer the question about Captain - No, I will not. He's been a liability the past two years.

I think DJax & Cockrell will rotate in and out of the slot based on looks. Both are capable of playing inside and out, so I think it's another wrinkle in our "hybrid-who-knows" defense that we will see all year.

I even think Gaulden will get looks in the 3-3-5 along with the yet to be signed FA FS that is not yet on our roster, but will be soon.

there was a time when Capt was underrated IMO.

But I think he is done.   Will we miss what became a very average veteran nickel? Well... possibly.   Because we have put train wrecks on the field for entire seasons.
